Kia Kaha, BIG Aussie movie fan - My Brilliant Career (was that Sam Neil's first?), Tim is one of my favorite Mel movies, I loved a Town Called Alice from Masterpiece Theater (that is available on vidio too). I know that there are others but in my old age it is getting harder to remember , but my mom and dad are the ones who introduced me to the brilliance of the "80's" Australian movies. I still cry at the end of Gallipolli (the heartbreak), Breaker Morant (the injustice) and Tim (the emotions).

Re: Songs That Make You Cry

The new Annie Lenox album has a song titled "The Saddest Song I've Got" and it really is. Otherwise, Sarah McLachlan "Hold On" breaks me, knowing that it's about somebody watching their spouse die and preparing for the moment when they need to let go. Johnny Cash's "Hurt" is really poignant. "Turn and Run" used to make me cry, I don't like it anymore. Funny, because there are only a NF few songs I have started liking less as time goes on, usually it's the opposite. And I think I was...

Neil is one of the great male vocalists of all time, warmth, emotion, heartbreak, ectasy, subtlety, and good old fashioned rock and roll all wrapped up in one voice. He can touch you in so many ways both with his melodies and his singing and having seen him live three times in the past six months, can only marvel at how versatile his voice still is. From belting out I Got You to the beautiful mike-free version of DDIO at the Albert Hall the other week. Nicola's the singer in our house and...

Like everyone here, I am also in shock about Paul.....it is something that will leave a scar on us all for a long time. My family and I, all of us are fans of Crowded House and Paul and will miss him dearly. With the torment of his passing, it causes me to think back over years of memories that the music of Paul and Crowded House have brought me. I don't think that Paul would want to be remembered in the tragedy of his death, but in the joy, exuberance and enthusiasm that was his life. We...

I think Lyle has a new album out, and I know he's been around here recently in concert, so I guess he got over the heartbreak. vch

Somehow I missed this thread when I was looking for somewhere to enthuse about the vinyl edition of I'll Be Lightning last week and I ended up burying it in the Spaceland thread. I've listened to this album a lot this week and it's inspiring. My favourite album of the year so far. So much energy, sorrow, joyfulness, heartbreak, density and space. For those with a turntable, I recommend the vinyl for its deep and rich bass, the five extra tracks, the enforced break between each of the four...

Keep checking!! Couple years ago I was broken-hearted about not getting U2 tix. I was clicking on the seating chart, explaining sadly to the kids, "This is where I'm not sitting." The kids, being very cool, interested me in other sites to get my mind off that heartbreak. Then one day, when I checked again, there were two seats available. So then I was happy and got tix!!! Here's me now : best of luck gettin your Neil tix 'n have a great time!!!!!

Re: Inspiration for Tim's Songs?

Yes, I gather quite a few songs were written about his relationship with Phil Judd - Charlie for example, as well as I Hope I Never, as you say TR. It's really interesting to me that two songs at least that I had picked as romantic heartbreak - I Hope I Never and Where Do you go - were not about women and lost love at all, but one about a friend (tension;breakdown;distrust;growing apart;betrayal) and another about a suicide. Which is why I thought this topic would be interesting -...

Re: The Crowded House reformation?

Now, having heard the new songs both live and on Youtube, I'm not so sure. To continue being epic and relevant, and not turn into an oldies band, they are going to need stronger songs. The new ones sound more like Neil's introspective solo stuff, which is lovely, but I guess Crowded House used to be more about the hooks. Or maybe this is a natural evolution of the band, and this is the direction they were heading anyway, in which case that's fine with me. I agree that CH was hookier and more...

The reasons of my comments regarding this whole thing isn't to defend the legitimacy of the item, but more rather your quick reaction to put a damper on something PJ related for the umpteenth dozen time. Wow! Nice additions there, particularly - "Man Of The World". Neil and Mike Campbell did a great job on it at Largo while they were in tour rehearsals so a little surprising it's taken almost a year to make it into the set - it was a #2 hit. Only a few of their singles from any era of the band have charted higher in any territory. With "I Got You' reinstated in the set that would potentially be an additional three songs featuring Neil on lead vocal going forward on the antipodean tour...

Good review. I’m also pleased they noted that it takes an additional 5 musicians on stage to complement the 6 billed as Fleetwood Mac. I’ve seen this tour and really enjoyed it, but it is very much best not to think too much about it, musicianship-from-Fleetwood-Mac-wise.

I see the extra musicians as just filling out the arrangements...I don’t see them as compensating for something lacking in the core band. FM is rich enough to afford that level of production and I think they just want to put on a big show.

Exactly. It's also worth pointing out that what I recall as being much, if not exactly the same musicians and backing singers were augmenting the principal players when I last saw Fleetwood Mac with Lindsey in the band ten years ago and have been for many years and several tours. Plus they also receive full introductions to the audience during the show so it's not like they're a deliberately overlooked presence.

Yeah - I wasn’t suggesting it was either hidden (though for years the percussionist was behind Mick’s drumkit until they started getting bad press about it) or that it was different with Lindsay. I just find it interesting that it takes a village, as it were. It would be a nice moment if Christine were to play the DDIO organ, instead of leaving it to the keyboard player in the shadows.
