Re: youtube vids

If you use Safari on your Mac, try this: Open the Activity window and have it visible when you load the Youtube page. The Activity window lists all files being downloaded - you should be able to spot the video, as it'll be a larger file. Double click on the name of that file, and Safari will try and open it in a new browser window - but because it can't be displayed in that way, Safari will instead download it to your hard drive. It'll be called get_video, and is a .flv file. Now your...

Re: ABC Australia "My favourite album" Poll

Well I thought it was more of the same, but at least a few albums from outside the monolithic '70s popped up. Is the ABC demographic finally de-boomering? V funny to see Meatloaf in there. But yes, Mr Buckley? Very odd. What went on there? At least no Stones, or Fleetwood Mac, thank the lord but having two Beatles was a bit over the top I thought. But I will defend Pink Floyd from you two lads. Some fantastic music, innovative at the time, and still emminently listenable to. Not necessarily...

Dodgy ground there Helenka How can you compare Thelonius Monk (jazz composer, pianist and all round genius) to Bela Lugosi (B movie hack only known for playing Dracula and being in Plan 9 from Outer Space when he was dead). Your arguments for Pink Floyd could easily apply to The Beatles, in fact.... But I will defend The Beatles from you young lady. Some fantastic music, innovative at the time, and still emminently listenable to. Not necessarily their best (I prefer Revolver), but it's an...

*puts on mod hat... then takes it off again because I'm going to post some of my own opinion...* I think what Sara posted was actually pretty well balanced, and not influenced by her being involved in the industry... other than her being able to provide a perspective that isn't obvious to the rest of us in the general public. She's not "peddling" -- and presents points that are more compelling than those at the website you linked to. AAC is perfectly adequate for *most* people, and for those...

I don't know about availability outside the US (I can't see why this would matter??), but I've watched webcasts via this site before, and it's always come off without a hitch. Much easier and straightforward for me, as a Mac user, than the CH webcast last night.

Roxanne R ·
You people are killing me with all of this talk! As one of the unfortunate ones (that is, the typically loyal Mac user who found themselves sitting in front of an empty screen, staring in disbelief as the rest of you beamed down the webcast), I was only able to hear these songs once , as I had to run to my neighbor's house and beg the use of their PC. Unable to record or download any of it for a second or more critical listen. Arghh! But I loved what I heard, and June seems awfully far away.

Re: What is the latest news with Pajama Club?

Steve Shealy ·
Just guessing, but I think that Pajama Club was an itch that Neil scratched and moved on. I agree, I liked the debut, but I see it as a one-off, and don't really expect a follow-up. It appeared that a couple of songs that were either unused or written for a follow-up were used on Dizzy Heights. It does seem like the Liam/Neil songs sound a bit like the Out of Silence ones, and I would like to hear some more up-tempo rock songs, too, but with Fleetwood Mac taking up the next year or so, I'm...

Re: What is the latest news with Pajama Club?

Secret God (Stew) ·
I'm guessing the lack of any Pajama Club activity is really more of a question of where he would fit another album (and tour?) into his busy schedule. Since Pajama Club came out almost seven years ago, Neil's gone on tour and released a live album / DVD with Paul Kelly , released and toured the Dizzy Heights solo album, released the Help Is Coming / Anthem single, worked on, promoted and reissued seven Crowded House albums with bonus discs (what was effectively the long awaited boxed set),...

Mark, are you a PC idiot or a Mac idiot? I'm a Mac idiot, and it's defintely trickier to use FLAC than mp3, assuming the ultimate target is iTunes and/or an iPod. You need to use a conversion program of some kind (I used a program called Max) to convert the FLAC files to AIFF, mp3, or AAC. AIFF would be true lossless bu big files; the others would involve compression, but you could use higher data rates to get better quality. I downloaded the 8/30 winery show in FLAC format and then...

Yes, a great night which really came alive when everyone leapt to their feet during It's Only Natural. Thanks for coming to Birmingham chaps. A few memories passed on for the record - * Don't Stop Now - Mark's harmonies spot on * Rocky Raccoon - good shout from someone - it was actually just before Whispers And Moans, and Neil's initial desire to play it on guitar was scuppered by the open tuning he had set up for Whispers. So he switched to keyboard and a delightfully jolly version ensued,...

I agree with everything written on this thread and I'll add my own frustrated American 2 cents. I have every Crowded House single release plus more. I legally purchased them from import shops etc. I REALLY want to get this single, however being in the US, the itunes UK and Australia store is a no-go. I managed to legally buy it from 7digital, but I can't get it to play on a mac. (WMA files only). This is so incredibly frustrating! I really want to get this release (I already spent the money)...

Re: The one album you will take to your grave...

Dorthonion ·
I cannot decide whether it would be "Together Alone" (all the argument in favor has already been brought forth) or "Live at Blues Alley" by Eva Cassidy . These albums are totally different not only in genre/style but also in emphasis. TA is an original work; songs put on record for the very first time, and that creative genius poured into a mold. The live recording of what was to be Eva Cassidy's only recording released in her lifetime puts the emphasis on interpreting songs by others - and...
