Chiming in late (as usual) ... For me, it's a shame that "I'm So Scared Of Losing I Can't Compete" never got the full treatment -- what a fun, grunge-y track. Maybe Neil and Liam could revive it / finish it? It sounds a lot like a Liam-type of song, actually. Speaking of whom -- did Liam play the drums on this track? It's listed as a 'home demo', so it probably wasn't Peter Jones playing drums, and the drumming seems a bit beyond Neil's modest capabilities. Jaffaman, do you have any inside...

Thanks for this list; indeed very useful for reference. I miss Tim's Rarities, Demos, Live Performances Vol. I on your list. Not sure if you didn't list it because it self-released, but just wanted to let you know.

Glad the list helps. The reason the album you mentioned wasn't included is because it's clearly a compilation Might start up another topic with all my compilations if anyone is interested though.

Nice list! I would add Phil Manzanera's K-Scope which like Southern Cross featured Tim on lead vocals for a few tracks. Other Enzers were also involved. Mark Hart was a member of Supertramp for a few albums before and after Crowded House. Neil was featured prominently on several Dave Dobbyn albums including as producer and co-songwriter on Twist. Phil contributed music to a movie called Amy in 1997 but I don't know if the soundtrack was officially released.

Re: Fleetwood Mac (with Neil Finn) to Perform on The Ellen Show on September 5

Annie99999 ·
I have to agree. Ellen is my favourite show host of all time. Yes above Oprah. I’ve found her light hearted ness yet mature and insightful comments and questions will bring balance to many questions we the subjects fans have. I hope she asks questions in a manner not to hurt but to get down to the gritty stuff. Get things out and hopefully eliminate the current drudge. I’d like to hear an old blues song or two on the show. I hope people will stop comparing Neil to Lindsey and if there’ll be...

Weird story : Hope there was more on this DAT tape. I remember two other very good songs from that era that were never released. "Bad luck" and "Something I've been". Although the last song is more of Liam solo song.

Absolutely beautiful performance. Flawless playing by everyone, especially Liam who with a little restraint is showing just how much he can add to this iteration of the band. This is a very exciting glimpse of what’s to come.

Hi Steve. I had one person say the same thing about www.neilfinn.com many months ago. It's a safe site but some older browsers or firewalls might have problems with it. The Crowded House site is set up the same way and, being brand new, it might take a while to gain trusted status. Are you using a desktop, laptop, iOS or Android device? Have you tried accessing the sites on a different device and via a different internet service provider?

Hi Jaffaman I've tried accessing the site on my desktop, laptop and iphone and have no joy with any of them. I've also tried numerous browsers - Firefox, Safari, Chrome amd Opera. I was able to access the fangradio page earlier this year, but now can't even get to that one either (since it's part of neilfinn.com) Are there any potential ways to get round this? Steve

I just tried and still can't access either site. I'm initially warned not to try due to 'malicious content' being contained, but when I choose to continue any way, the TLS handshake times out and I get nowhere. There must surely be some simple solution to this in terms of the site's security/configuration?

I've enabled a setting for both sites that hadn't been enabled, strangely, so see if that makes a difference in the next few days. Otherwise, there might be an issue with your browser... although it seems you've tried a number of different ones.

Hi Jaffaman, Thanks for the update. I tried again today, and while I no longer get a warning from my ISP stating that the site contains malicious content, the TLS handshake still times out and I can't connect. Is there any way to change the settings for that? I've tried a few browsers, so I don't think the problem is at my end. I'll be interested to see if what you've done has solved the issue for anyone else. thanks, Steve

Odd. I've checked both websites on many different browsers on various PCs, Macs, iPhones and iPads on different ISPs in different places. The security certificate always comes up as valid. Maybe some of the third party embeds on the site (YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, bandsintown, Soundcloud, etc) are throwing up a flag for your browser or virus protection.

I would check on your operating system, given that you get the issue on multiple different browsers. If its Windows, try here for info - https://blogs.technet.microsof...-its-the-ctl-engine/ - issue could be that all types of TLS are not selected, so could be the cause of the issue.

Has anyone else noticed the shapes and images which are hidden in the seemingly white background of the band’s picture on the website? I can’t figure out how to upload a picture to this forum, bit if you play around with the brightness and contrast, you’ll definitely see something is there; or maybe it’s just my imagination, running away with me...

Another thing to try, especially as it on multiple devices too, is that I assume when you tried on iPhone that you were on the same wifi network as your other devices? Try turning off wifi and trying - there is your router config that could also be causing issues... sites and certificates and all the bits in-between have so many variables.

@BRANDO BRANDT you are quite right ... there are "objects" in the background ... looking at the negative version of the picture it seems like it was taken in a garden/park, what looks like trees and buildings in the background have been processed to just almost out of sight

Solved the problem at last -- seems it was all down to having 'Web Protect' automatically installed as part of my BT broadband package. Turned it off and everything works fine. Of course I'll no longer get warned about sites that really are malicious, so an interesting trade-off. A shame the Neil Finn/Crowdies sites aren't considered safe in the first place, as I'd ideally like to keep some sort of security in place.

I wish there was more information like this out there. So fascinating to hear both his experiences and his opinions given that he was so closely involved with the recording evolution. It's just eye opening to hear how much these songs go through. Those of us who don't record hit records for a living are easily unaware of the labor and debates that go on behind the scenes. The band certainly doesn't just show up, record a song, and go home. It's hard to imagine, for example, Paul coming in to...

It'd be interesting to know how much of the so called Still Life demos are recorded with Stuart Ellison and which were recorded earlier and which he then added parts to. There are versions of "Persuasion" and "Funny Way" on there and "Persuasion" in particular is quite different from the album; but frankly, it's terrible in comparison with the finished Mark Hart-produced song to my ears -- but Stuart doesn't seem to like the album version at all. I could not disagree with him more. Different...

Would love a Scottish gig, Stuart, and I was about to discount the idea based on the fact that they seem to be playing larger, festival-style gigs, and then I remembered TRNSMT. Possible, but their line-ups tend not to go for legacy-type acts, and veer towards the young and/or mid-90s Brit audience (Radiohead, Liam G, etc). Here's hoping. My ability to get babysitters to cover international travel are pretty much non-existent.

Thanks so much for sharing this interview! I'm particularly fascinated with the comments about "In Love With it All" and "Strangeness and Charm," which always sounded like Woodface outtakes to my ears. So it's pretty interesting to me that Ellison seems to think those songs were part of what Crowded House was doing at the time (even if Nick and Paul weren't involved). Jaffaman, can you shed any light on that? Were those two Finn Brothers songs ever considered for Woodface? What's the scoop? ...

The song and video are not bad, but I can’t get over how uninvolving I find Liam’s voice. Have felt this way since I’ll Be Lightning. Many say he sounds like his dad, and I just don’t get it — maybe some superficial similarity but I think Neil’s voice is one for the ages, and Liam, while perfectly capable as a singer just has such a bland and unengaging voice to me. I’ve preordered the album but the released songs so far range from “not for me” (Ghosts) to “growing on me” (Back to Life) to...

I have to agree with you. I don’t get the similar voices comments. They don’t sound similar to me at all. Liam’s range is totally different to Neil’s. Neil’s is more broader. Doesn’t mean Liam can’t be a singer songwriter. Just means they’re different. Nothing wrong with that.
