4. Try Whistling This/Spirit if the Stairs. Hard to decide, and feels like cheating cause I partly consider Spirit of the Stairs as CH song, but Neil solo definitely improved it... and when I looking at it, noticed that even 2 of 5 songs wasnt even on official releases...so much about whoever choosed songs for official albums...

Wow ... this is nearly impossible but here goes in no particular order ... and I can't keep it to four songs ... sorry but I couldn't narrow it past the top ten. Songs are posted below ... 1. Lullaby Requiem (may be my favorite Neil Finn song period) 2. Guiding Star (affects me deeply every time I hear it) 3. Blue Hotel (obscure song but brilliant ... oh so brilliant) 4. Chameleon Days (the second half of the song is where it gets me) 5. Widow's Peak (goosebumps) 6. Love Is All That Remains...

I tried but couldn’t do it... Best I can do is top 4 in no order (as I listen to his solo albums right now). Rest Of The Day Off (its almost summer here in Australia and it’s a Saturday and I’m taking today off) Last To Know (fixing lawn sprinklers and listening to my young kids playing) Last One Standing (always a personal fav of mine) Second Nature (album version) Subject to change!!!

This song didn't wow me the first time, I forgot about it for a couple of years until playing it just the other day. It's a gorgeous song. I have a love/hate relationship with the production on One Nil. This is one of the high points. "Feel like an accident waking up Under a bus with my fingers crossed Now is the time we could make it up" This part sounds amazing.

I took the song to be about a mother losing her son in a terrorist attack but that's because I initially thought Neil was saying "The Lord Is Always On Your Side" ... so I took it to be about a mother losing her faith and having to grapple with how God can let such horrific things happen.

"Nobody wants to" comes to mind immediately for me. I think it's a beautiful little gem. I also love "In the Lowlands", both musically and lyrically. There's so much going on in this song. I agree with you on Pinenapple Head being underrated. It seems a silly little singalong song at first, but it's so well crafted.

For those that haven't read it, our beloved Axver attempted to rank EVERY A-side Crowded House song from the 6 albums, Afterglow and Recurring Dream Best of: https://rateyourmusic.com/list...wded-house-ranked/1/ It motivated me to make one of my own. Whilst it seems pointless, overly technical and subject to constant change, it was actually a very fun journey to go on. It really got me thinking about what I do and don't love about every song and deepened my appreciation of their entire...

Sure! This would almost warrant a separate thread, because it's always a fun conversation starter. Some people are bewildered that their favourite song ranks so low, others are happy that somebody else shares an obscure favourite of theirs, but it always makes for spirited discussion. Re: Most Underrated Crowded House Songs

It's pretty painstaking and time-consuming. To start out, I just positioned them roughly on the list depending on how much I like them. Then I worked through the list head-to-head (1st vs 2nd, 2nd vs 3rd etc) and whenever I preferred the lower song, it would keep moving up until it 'lost'. I found the more different two songs are, the harder they are to compare. Think about Now We're Getting Somewhere and Help Is Coming. I love both of them but the sound, atmosphere and mood are polar...

All so subjective but Fall at your feet at 51 is.... Controversial! My underated tune is always Tombstone. It starts with the greatest lyrics of any song. In fact the sequence Can't carry on => I walk away => Tombstone is just a perfect sequence.

Re: Most Underrated Crowded House Songs

That's my favourite stretch of the album. What makes it all the more curious is that Tombstone is an extremely crowd-friendly, singalong type of song. I can understand that atmospheric, moody masterpieces like Catherine Wheels and Kare Kare are not built for radio. But Tombstone? It could easily be an all-time classic pop-rock song in a parallel universe. I mean it just oozes 'mega-hit'. Looking at the track listing, those gems towards the back of the album may have simply been victims of...

I would choose Four Seasons in One Day. I literally fell off my chair the first time I heard that song, when it got to the bridge. The sound was so unexpectedly lovely that it knocked me off my desk chair onto the floor. *laughs* I would love to be able to experience that again.

Maybe Distant Sun. It starts out pleasant but rather benign, the second verse takes it up a notch, and the bridge snaps things into focus. Then the final chorus is really resonant and poignant. Thinking back, that song was critical in really appreciating Crowded House, and Neil Finn as a great songwriter.
