COOL, One of a Kind-Crowded House Signed Children's Ironing Board

JeanJeanie ·
One of a Kind Crowded House Signed Ironing Board needs a new home. Hi everyone! I just found this site. I'm a big fan, and saw them on their first tour in Detroit 9-15-87. I met the band and had them sign this small, toddler sized ironing board. It's very cool and has their signatures and doodles of course! I need to downsize, and wondered if any fan, living in USA, would like it. I will make it reasonable. :) Hope it's okay to do this on this site. :) Not sure how this site works, but...

+1 to Sylvan Esso. I continue to hate the Grande/Cyrus versions (any of them). It's clear by her singing and demeanor that Miley Cyrus has no idea of the meaning of "my possessions were causing me suspicion but there's no proof." A well-meaning performance by a couple of talented but callow kids, who embody the worst of modern pop vocal affectations.

I enjoyed the instrumental tinkerings of the Boy & Bear cover, but was not a fan of the vocals at all.

I still haven't listened to them, nor do I want to. I appreciate the charitable nature of the covers, I just don't like feeling disappointment with a Finn song.

Secret God (Stew) ·
I feel that this decision, from the limited info we have, has already divided the fandom like nothing before it. We may well be the greatest and more friendliest bunch of fans on the planet, but we're all human. Elsewhere on the internet (Facebook) there have been major arguments that have transitioned into flat-out name-calling. We're all going to have our own opinions and disagree with others, but that's really where it should end in my opinion. Ideally we shouldn't be taking offence at...

Good points! One thing I've learnt from fan communities is that if the artist isn't reading and not commenting, then 100 percent people around them are.

Unfortunatley , being told what to think , or what not to think , or that it’s ridiculous to put so much importance on Mark - are all things very likely to cause offence - along with the blatant name calling . ive found the “ finn bros appreciation “ page on Facebook to be the worst . The rest of the sites including this one seem fine really

Having seen several fan communities become boiling cesspools of hate when a band does something that some fans disagree with, I can understand the concern of the OP here. Some people seem to take decisions made by bands very personally, and while I can understand that some people may be disappointed by various things happening, some 'fans' seem to become obsessed with bringing the band down. And, to an extent, that can ruin things for actual fans of the band who might want to continue...

Oh yes there are different opinions out there but I dont think it is as out of control as the LB/FM saga ..the angst that went and still goes on! (will they ever let go?) I dont think the same can be said about Frenz and our own band lineup change. I think the divide is more about the why ( which has not been stated) and who is worthy to replace Mark. No one in my fandom eyes but that is just me

I am sure Liam will learn the parts if the band decided they’re needed. I loved the combination of Mark on lap steel and Neil on acoustic guitar on When You Come and Private Universe. Neither have worked quite as well since Neil started playing electric guitar for both (see also Distant Sun).

Hi Thom Bullock Thanks for your reply 🙂. "I am sure Liam will learn the parts if the band decided they’re needed." After some thought, I reckon it would be good they keep the lap steel in future. For some continually. "I loved the combination of Mark on lap steel and Neil on acoustic guitar on When You Come and Private Universe. Neither have worked quite as well since Neil started playing electric guitar..." I agree. Their is harmony with the acoustic guitar and the lap steel. Added the...

I’ve actually disliked renditions of Distant Sun and Private Universe since Neil started playing them on electric guitar (It’s Only Natural likewise). So I’m actually more concerned about him continuing on that trend, especially with Liam likely playing electric too, so how much room would that leave for Mitchell Froom’s keyboards in the mix? The use of lap steel (Private Universe, When You Come, Kare Kare, Catherine Wheels, Help is Coming and others) is very connected to Mark Hart for me.

Re: Lap steel - thoughts, opinions

I'm assuming you liked the lap steel then 🙂! If 'Help is Coming' was performed live without the lap steel... it would sound very bare I think is the word. My understanding from your quote above is 'Lap Stell = Mark Hart'. Therefore: Kare Kare - No Mark Hart = no lap steel. I just think some people who would be introduced to CH by friends would be missing out on a unique sound 🙂.

An open letter to all Crowdies

The Pineapple Head ·
Hello everyone. I've always felt that the Crowded House/Frenz community has been a like minded and mostly agreeing place. Sure, we have different opinions but there's always underlying respect. However, after the recent business with Mark Hart, I'm worried what will become of this fandom. Neil's decision has been extremely divisive and have no doubt that no matter what some people will be unhappy with the result. I, myself have my reservations. Still it will be interesting to see what...

Hi Steve. I had one person say the same thing about www.neilfinn.com many months ago. It's a safe site but some older browsers or firewalls might have problems with it. The Crowded House site is set up the same way and, being brand new, it might take a while to gain trusted status. Are you using a desktop, laptop, iOS or Android device? Have you tried accessing the sites on a different device and via a different internet service provider?

Hi Jaffaman I've tried accessing the site on my desktop, laptop and iphone and have no joy with any of them. I've also tried numerous browsers - Firefox, Safari, Chrome amd Opera. I was able to access the fangradio page earlier this year, but now can't even get to that one either (since it's part of neilfinn.com) Are there any potential ways to get round this? Steve

I just tried and still can't access either site. I'm initially warned not to try due to 'malicious content' being contained, but when I choose to continue any way, the TLS handshake times out and I get nowhere. There must surely be some simple solution to this in terms of the site's security/configuration?

I've enabled a setting for both sites that hadn't been enabled, strangely, so see if that makes a difference in the next few days. Otherwise, there might be an issue with your browser... although it seems you've tried a number of different ones.

Hi Jaffaman, Thanks for the update. I tried again today, and while I no longer get a warning from my ISP stating that the site contains malicious content, the TLS handshake still times out and I can't connect. Is there any way to change the settings for that? I've tried a few browsers, so I don't think the problem is at my end. I'll be interested to see if what you've done has solved the issue for anyone else. thanks, Steve

Odd. I've checked both websites on many different browsers on various PCs, Macs, iPhones and iPads on different ISPs in different places. The security certificate always comes up as valid. Maybe some of the third party embeds on the site (YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, bandsintown, Soundcloud, etc) are throwing up a flag for your browser or virus protection.

I would check on your operating system, given that you get the issue on multiple different browsers. If its Windows, try here for info - https://blogs.technet.microsof...-its-the-ctl-engine/ - issue could be that all types of TLS are not selected, so could be the cause of the issue.

Has anyone else noticed the shapes and images which are hidden in the seemingly white background of the band’s picture on the website? I can’t figure out how to upload a picture to this forum, bit if you play around with the brightness and contrast, you’ll definitely see something is there; or maybe it’s just my imagination, running away with me...

Another thing to try, especially as it on multiple devices too, is that I assume when you tried on iPhone that you were on the same wifi network as your other devices? Try turning off wifi and trying - there is your router config that could also be causing issues... sites and certificates and all the bits in-between have so many variables.

@BRANDO BRANDT you are quite right ... there are "objects" in the background ... looking at the negative version of the picture it seems like it was taken in a garden/park, what looks like trees and buildings in the background have been processed to just almost out of sight
