Re: DECADE REVIEW: Favourite/Least Favourite Albums of the 2010s
At this time, I would reach for these records in order 1) Pajama Club - it feels alive and inspired; groove enters Neil’s writing with perfect collaboration 2) Out of Silence - deep, dark and topical. You can tell that the events of our time have hung heavily in Neil’s eyes and he expressed them with fragility and nuance. 3) The View .... - songs and production are tied beautifully; there’s a little bit of sameness that makes me forgetful of its beauty. I would not say worst, but these...

Out of Silence is my favorite Finn-related project of the decade, by far.

Re: DECADE REVIEW: Favourite/Least Favourite Albums of the 2010s
Yes, yes, another decade of Finn music. Aren't we all so spoiled? 1. Favorite thing was absolutely Out of Silence. Every song is incredible and watching the recording process unfold was such a treat. I was excited when Neil collaborated with Victoria Kelly on "Song of the Lonely Mountain" and thought that song was terrific. Then I thought Dizzy Heights would be the album that fulfilled their promise as collaborators. But instead the strings got sort of lost in the albums production while it...

Re: DECADE REVIEW: Favourite/Least Favourite Albums of the 2010s
Hard to find a decisive winner from Intriguer, Dizzy Heights and Out of Silence. I think the quality of songwriting was comparable on all three. Of course, each album is distinguished by a very different sound. Intriguer with a more conventional 'band' sound you can expect from CH. Dizzy Heights with slick, if occasionally over-polished production. Out of Silence with the choir, Infinity Orchestra and Victoria Kelly. I'd put Lightsleeper behind the above three albums. To be honest, I've...

1. Intriguer. 2. Our of Silence. 3. Light sleeper. I haven’t listened to View Is Worth the Climb much yet.

Re: Next Exit, what does everyone think of the song?
I don't think either version (Luton or the 1983 re-recording) is particularly memorable, unfortunately, although I probably prefer the Luton version.

Re: Next Exit, what does everyone think of the song?
I love it; absolutely fantastic melody. I feel like the subject matter (suicide) is treated a little flippantly but there is some irony there. I suppose. Both versions are fine but the middle 8 of the 83 version probably wins for me, though I prefer the original slightly darker lyric. Rear Enz version has tape issue. 78 version is badly mastered and hard on the ears, but otherwise pretty good. Overall though it’s a melodic, forgotten gem.

I like the 1983 version so much that I wish they would have included it on Time & Tide. FWIW, I think that album badly needs a couple winners to replace some of the clunkers.

Re: Next Exit, what does everyone think of the song?
I like both versions of Next Exit. The 83 version wins for me. Time And Tide is perfect tho and clunker free. Pioneer, Six Months, Dirty Creature and Haul Away are the ones the casual listener/fan would know. But Hello Sandy, Log Cabin, Small World and the whole rest of the album is exceptional. And the core of the band (Tim, Ed, Noel, Nigel and Neil) all consider it their best album. And as the second Next Exit was recorded 83 if it was going to be added to an album it would be Conflicting...

I agree, Jeremy about Time and Tide . Probably the Enz's best album, though I think the international 1981 version of Frenzy is just as good. But it might have improved Conflicting Emotions, though it doesn't really quite fit in with that cold mechanized sound of Conflicting Emotions.

Re: Next Exit, what does everyone think of the song?
I guess I would drop "Never Ceases to Amaze Me" and "Lost for Words" and replace them with "Next Exit" and "Remember When" (both obviously the later recordings not the Luton versions). For me, the album's momentum just hits a brick wall when you get to NCTAM and LFW, which is a shame because I think "Small World" is one of the best Enz songs. Here's what I did to make the album more enjoyable for my tastes: Haul Away Dirty Creature Giant Heartbeat Small World Hello Sandy Allen Next Exit Make...

I really like Next Exit. It’s actually one of the first Enz songs I heard when I started searching for CH-related music in the early 2000s, possibly because it was one of the few that had a music video on YouTube at that time.

Neil? He's only on backing vocals, as I recall.

Yeah, he sings the harmony to Tim's melody on the second verse. Very catchy little harmony it is too!

Re: Should there be a new Finn Brothers album and why?
Personally I'd love to see one! I loved both of them and I feel that they would collaborate well together. The song 'Alone' from Out of Silence is a good example. However, I'm really hoping Crowded House 3.0 and ForENZics are long term things and we will get at least 2-3 albums from each.

Any new Finn music is welcome. I do love to hear the brothers together, their voices complement so well, and the bond they have really comes across. I agree that I wouldn't want it to detract from CH. I'm guessing Forenzics is a one-off deal.

Yes, definitely! I think Neil and Tim bring out the best in each other. I would be more interested in new Finn Bros material than I am in Crowded House 3.0.

Yes. I think that their songs compliment each other so well. But I’m happy with anything Finn. I hope Tim goes back to doing albums or at least he could release something that he has done in the last 10 years even if it’s just demos or rough performances like the brilliant Fiery Maze.

Yes. Tim and Neil are a great combination. Personally, I feel Neil's involvement pushes Tim to greater (dizzier) heights, and the sum of the parts, pretty darn good. Like Lance wrote. I'm happy with anything Finn. But I do prefer that which sounds like genuine effort. Except the good stuff that appears so seamless, of course.

Re: Should there be a new Finn Brothers album and why?
Can we just have Tim guest on the new Crowded House album? Honestly, I think it was a mistake not to have made Everyone Is Here a Crowded House album. It could have been phenomenal, IMHO. I know Paul couldn't have replicated some of the incredible percussion tracks on songs like "Homesick", but I think the trade off of marketing it as a true Crowded House album (with Tim Finn!) would have totally been worth it! Would a new Finn Brothers album be worth it if there were no tour to support it?

Re: Should there be a new Finn Brothers album and why?
It would be nice to have one more - it's certainly been long enough since the last album. Tim seems to be withdrawing from the industry quietly and as someone who got into the Enz and Finn Bros material far too late I'd love some material to experience fresh and see them performing live. That said, I think pre-virus Neil had the next few years booked out with Mac and Crowded House which would make him much more money. Keen for a full album of Forenzics though! More Mental Notes-era members...

DECADE REVIEW: Favourite/Least Favourite Albums of the 2010s
As it is EXTREMELY unlikely that we'll get another album in the 2010s let's look bck on this decade of Finn-ness. Here's a list of albums and major live events beyond tours of albums. My Mother and I have always loved the Finn Brothers albums, but we have also seen/read reviews where people don't like the material. I really want to know what everyone thinks!

Next Exit, what does everyone think of the song?
Though 'Next Exit' is a fairly obscure song from Split Enz I know most fans know it quite well. However, I don't think I've seem any reviews or opinions on the song itself. Just wanted to know if anyone had any interesting information on the song or wanted to post an opinion! Thanks!

Split Enz (and Crowded House) Reviewed
Hello, I'm a New Zealander, and have been a fan of the Finn brothers since my teens. As a hobby I've been working on a personal music review website, and I've just covered Split Enz: https://albumreviews.blog/reviews/split-enz/ I haven't seen many reviews of Split Enz's entire discography (although I haven't covered the live releases, Odds and Enz, or the Luton Tapes) in one place, so I thought that people might be interested. Let me know if I have any factual errors. I also covered Crowded...

I'd like to see Tim perform, at least one more time. And FB tours always hit the Southern states, the later ones anyway. That's reason enough for me. "My kiss-*** brother said to say 'hello'". Say it is so tour, Smith's olde bar, Atlanta 2000

Just listening to EIH. Something of the best the Finns have ever done. Such an underrated album. Just world class. „And we can‘t get any closer..“ (a life between us). this recording is so deep, touching, melodic, a classic.
