Re: Aussie Music Fans Please Help!!!
Thanks guys!! I must stress that the nature of this party is a bit of a giggle, basically we have to decorate our office in an Australian theme, and the music is just to add to that. While the neighbouring office has another theme, then the head of the division will vote on who wins!....it's just like being at school! LOL Anyway...my CD is done and the tracklist is as follows. (Remember it's all about setting an aussie theme, rather than actual...eh...quality!lol) I split it into sections,...

(in excited Marie Finn voice) Yeah! That's them! Of course, not sure we'll get an annual Tim Finn Day as they suggested, now that they've accused the mayor of being gay and having a fancy for Tim...have another beer, Tim...lol... I was howling when Tim said yeah, Jason, that't the guy who's married to Heidi, LMAO!!!!!!! Bellywatchers: Marie is carrying high, which usually indicates a girl. Hairwatchers: Neil used no mousse. Tim has gone blond, but we love him anyway. Shirts: Neil wore same...

Re: Gig injuries
Does a Tim Finn injury count? We saw him in Napier, New Zealand on Oct. 12, 2001...and during the jam session part of "Weather With You," Tim was twirling his guitar around, in preparation to go back into the chorus, and the end of the guitar whacked him right in the head, pretty hard! You could hear the whole crowd go, "OOOOH!" and it obviously had to hurt, because we were in the front row and heard the WHACK it made. It left a big red mark, and I hope he used ice later. Nobody would have...

Re: POLL: Finn On Finn>> Influence On Woodface's Success
Of course Tim was a major contributer to Woodface ... & the commercial singles released off it ( chocolate cake, weather with you, it's only natural ) prove that. Woodface (my least favourite record overall with Finn 1 ) probably wouldn't have been as successfull if Tim wasn't in it, but how the f*** do we know who wrote those 3 pop songs? Until I know that, then it's hard for me to discuss this seriously. I mean: Would those 3 songs have been on the record if Tim wasn't involved? How...

Re: POLL: Finn On Finn>> Influence On Woodface's Success
Sorry to put this right after your post ValerieH, but... I hate Weather With You. It is the worst Crowded house song ever. I want to claw off my ears when I hear it. It's taken me years to come to terms with the fact that I hate it, but I've finally made my peace with it. It's the only Crowded House song I've ever had such a violent reaction to, but it makes me feel good to know that Neil is not perfect. And Woodface is my least favourite Crowded House album. I do like most of the other...

I remember the day I bought very vividly in detail like what shop, the person who served me, the phone call I made and etc the sitiuation I first played the CD in. IT WAS AWFULL!!! Later I learnt to appreciate TA and it is a GREAT album. But first impressions were truly bad. Maybe your emotional pshycological state, mood etc and external circumstances INFLUENCE how...

Re: Neil Finn in France
I think if more people knew which songs were by Crowded House there would be more fans. We have some french friends and they didn't know who I meant when I said Crowded House. But when I sang a bit of Don't Dream It's Over, 5 out of 5 knew it and 4 out of the 5 knew Weather With You. On holiday in France though, I never ever see any Crowded House CDs But I did hear Fall At Your Feet getting played in a french supermarket, so obviously the songs are liked and popular. People just need to know...

Re: POLL: Finn On Finn>> Influence On Woodface's Success
Why does cohesion have to be a mark of a quality album? Look at The Beatles' 'White Album' - probably the biggest rag-bag of different musical styles, half-finished ideas, as well as pure classics that you're ever likely to hear. It has absolutely no theme. A very uncoherent album, but it works. Even George Martin didn't want to put it out as a double album but was talked round. I actually like Woodface because the mixture of styles had never been so obvious on a CH album before. It runs...

Re: ABBA and Ally McBeal
Well, I absolutely HATE the music of Abba and think of them as nothing more than writers of catchy, throwaway bubblegum pop. I don't think they excelled as musicians at all - songwriters and arrangers with an acute ability to write a hit single, maybe yes. You can't argue with their success though - they definitely recognised what people wanted and hit the jackpot time after time. What irritates me is the way that Abba are now seen as kind of cleverly kitsch - to me they were always very...

Matthew, I'm so glad that everything is ok for you. My uncle just bought a house in Canberra and is in the process of moving up there. He's living in an apartment in the heart of the city at the moment and there have been fire threats there too. we haven't heard from him for 5 days. Getting a little worried the fires have claimed just over 400 homes at last count. It has been declared the largest recorded fire damage in Australian history. I just hope to god my uncle is ok. Re: Arresting Topic...
Here's an article about the demonstration that took place here yesterday. The police's strategy, which was a wise one, appeared to be just "waiting it out" until the demonstrators were freezing their keesters off and had to stop. Consequently, nobody was arrested. I have to confess with much shame that I totally wimped out because of the weather. I feel incredibly guilty, like one of the complacent masses. Congratulations Peter on your 500th post... What is your advice regarding the cold weather and the tour? Has Neil mentioned whether there will or won't be meet and greets this time? (I don't know that anyone would blame him if he didn't want to stand in the cold, but I can also picture him feeling guilty if he saw throngs of icy fans waiting outside after, because he's just that kind of guy...) I just wanted to see if there's been any "official policy" issued, to save people being cold any...

Going to the Philly show! "Excited" doesn't even begin to cover how I am feeling! I'm a little stressed about the snow/sleet/ice/rain the weather gurus are talking about for Friday night. Haven't done anything different regarding my music listening. CH & SE in my mini-van and NF in the house & computer (my poor Paul Weller & Style Council collection - gathering dust lately). Great show last night. Arrived late and only caught the last two minutes of the Rhett Miller set. The band was a little less polished than last summer in DC - not surprising, given that (1) Lisa Germano was absent due to friend's illness, (2) first show on the tour, (3) preponderance of live "rarities" in the set. Steinberg needed to turn down the amp on his bass. About five songs in Neil asked who had been at the show last summer, and then who hadn't - sounded like about 60% of audience was...

My problem is that I don't think I actually *own* anything with lapels . However, if the weather suddenly takes a turn for the worse (Please, oh great weather gods, Stay cool and sunny!! I don't agree with some songs being ranked in the last half of the list. I think Niwhai is single material. Funky, modern, cutting edge and innoative. I love Bullets In My Hairdo - a the Finn's becoming Dylan like and social commenatarising on "mass consumerism". I love Eyes Of The World - becaue sometimes at heart I'm a "nihilist" and this song is partially about that - when you feel insignificant in the grand scheme of things (which 1 ordinary person is always is, really if you think about...

LOL Heidi... I laughed when I read that thing about late fees... we're going to incur some on "Minority Report", too, as we're 20 minutes (in good weather, on bad country roads) from the local Blockbuster, and this part of rural CT is tipped to get 16 to 20 inches. Holy cr@p, I've never seen that much snow in my LIFE! And we still have about 2-3 inches on the ground from the last snowfalls... I guess that will make us "snowed in" as our driveway is unpaved and about 1km long...

Definitely the worst part of a snow storm is having to clear out your car or drive-way and then actually drive in it. And believe me, even in Minnesota, people do not know how to drive in bad weather! Another bad kind of storm is an ice storm. Those are super scary! I remember a particularly bad storm a few years ago. I got home from work OK, but the next day my car locks were frozen! And we are talking frozen. My dad came over and used a flame torch to "thaw" the locks and he also had to...
