it was NEVER released on CD. So its been... umm... 26 years coming.. it will be VERY limited.. maybe round about 300 copies, perhaps even with new artwork by Phil himself and as mentioned BONUS TRACKS, including the (infamous) Al Kooper remixes which ended up on the USA only Mini-LP 'the Swinger', some demos, and some especially rare outtakes! It will again self financed by Phil, so make sure you all buy one to support the guy who without, there would've been no Split Enz, so then there...

Hey Phil....I know Im going a bit crazy with the posts here...but what can you do! I have just been listening to all your stuff over the past couple of days....and I think I like The Swingers the best. I remember a few things about The Swingers reforming and playing at the mushroom 25th concert....what happened there? And this'll seem strange, but I remember watching the an old Countdown ages ago when they used to play them on rage.....and I remember good old Molly saying that you left the...

Hello there to Phil Judd, Phil dude - there's so many people interested in your tunes and art - it's a shame they don't appear - is this a personal choice or copyright malarkey ? It'd be cool if you could drop me an email at dirty.creature@ntlworld.com - along with another person I run a site at http://www.bitzonline.com (your stuff offline being redesigned at the mo) and we have the largest public Phil Judd resource in existance. Sadly, it is very incomplete - there just isn't enough...

For all your Frenz needs click here! :0) ) Looks like Phil had a bad attack of poison ivy(or maybe something else down under)....and this was the remedy for scratching too much....I'm imagining his Mum was just about to add a shed load of brown tape to the top of those mitts

"Starstruck" was a Summer hit here, in the same way that "Puberty Blues" became a hit. .. but "Puberty Blues " went a bit deeper into the "troubles of youth" *grin*....."Starstruck" was more glitz. They probably both made their money back... The album did chart, and Jo Kennedy hosted Countdown (music TV show)....the cameo by The Swingers is one of the few good bits in the movie... The Swingers themselves, one hit wonders here, Mushroom tried to get "Aint what you Dance.." off the ground,...

I like it too but to my ears it's definitely disjointed. I prefer side one to side two. Here's an interview from Australian mag RAM promoting the album. RAM, December 9, 1983 Invasion of Privacy Phil Judd has become something of a recluse since his Split Enz and Swinger days. Greg Taylor tracks him down and finds that making solo albums is just as traumatic as group efforts. “Once upon a time it was Hastings, New Zealand, a medium sized town surrounded by orchards and hops and tobacco...

Some of the stuff on the Swinger E.P is worth checking out. the Schnell Fenster album "The Sound of Trees" is a good bet - and of course (Juddites will crucify me for not remembering the original title of the album here) The Swingers album that was re-released as Counting The Beat. Personally - I love some of the stuff on Beginning of The Enz too. Malmsbury Villa, No Bother To Me etc. My memory fails me as to whether they're Judd compositions or Judd\Finn compositions. Hi all, In the process of a rather large clearout, and I have the following items that I am selling \ offering up for trade. Split Enz - True Colours Cassette : This is the A&M Canada release of the album on cassette in Red\Green combo. It's in excellent condition, virtually unplayed and plays as new. It actually includes 2 copies of the inlay card for some bizarre reason. Split Enz - Mental Notes (US) and Dizrythmia (US) Cassette : These were both the Chrysalis cassette releases of these...

I am coming late to this party, having only just received my copy of the Rootin Tootin Luton Tapes (the 15-track edition, that is). But I'm thrilled and surprised to discover how good the album is. I was always much more partial to Split Enz's pre-True Colours output; still, I'd assumed the phantom Luton tapes would be little more than a drunken lo-fi mess by a band at its lowest ebb. It's great to be proven wrong. I think this is as good as anything they did in the harlequin-suit and...

I've always preferred Sound of Trees to "OK, Alright..." They're both standout bits of Phil's work, but Sound just hangs together better I think - not a duff track on it, and for a while it even edged out CH's stuff as my favourite post-Enz album. Private Lives I've never been able to track down, so good luck finding a copy Peedenmark7. I saw one copy on eBay a few months back, but bidding went too high for me. Vinyl copies of the Swinger seem to crop up regularly tho' if you've got a...

That's a hard question Mr. Sadly, since I love all three. I can tell you about some favorite tracks though... On Come Fly With Me , On the Road to Mandalay is the real swinger with bouncy deep drum notes. On Swingin' Affair , Lonesome Road has a gorgeous bassline, starts off quiet and builds to such a funky crescendo, it's exceptional! On Songs For Swingin' Lovers , I've Got You Under My Skin is the classic -- the bridge is as emotional as a Neil Finn bridge "Don't you know little fool, you...

Big thanks to Steve P for posting it up. Anyone know a good place to meet? I am a South East Londoner myself & have no idea what those queer folk of the North get up to. Mind you if the venue is that small we could simply meet up inside. Looking forward to seeing you again Suzanne.

The Enz tour might reignite a whole lot of interest in anything Enz, so it will probably be worth while watching E-bay. I purchased my copy of Stranger Than Fiction from E-bay (can't remember how much, but it was a while ago) then not long afterwards another copy was up for grabs which had been signed by Tim and Neil and I think a couple of others. I wanted to bid on it, but I already had my copy so decided to let common sense prevail. It would have been a treasure though Its a great book

Thanks for posting the link David. And I agree with Tim ( ). No really I do. There is atmosphere in the older theatres. The workmanship and craftsmanship of the buildings belong to an era that is long gone, and in my opinion won't be seen again. Even the building materials today seem cheap and nasty by comparison. It would be a very big mistake, IMHO, to loose something that is going to be replaced with modern crap. Go Tim...

The story also made it in the Sydney Morning Herald Tim Finn sings local council submission February 9, 2006 - 12:12PM Singing a song was the best way former Split Enz frontman Tim Finn could think of to convince a New Zealand city council meeting to save an historic theatre. Finn and his brother Neil, of Crowded House fame, are reforming Split Enz for a tour of Australia this year. He strummed a guitar and pleaded in a specially composed song to preserve the theatre on Auckland's North...

It is a great book! I think eBay is the wrong place to buy it, though, it just goes for too much money. I bought mine by doing an ISBN search on Google and found it in New Zealand through Abebooks. It only cost me £24 incl. postage to the UK. That's $56! Still a lot of money for a secondhand book, but not as rediculous as $148.

My dog Robbie (God rest his doggy soul) got ahold of my copy in 1995 which I had been reading outdoors...it now has a major ripped cover, doggy teeth marks, and warping. But still 100% readable! Wouldn't expect to get much on eBay for it considering its condition, and actually it's a little reminder of the doggy that I lost at 19 months!
