Yeah, especially when you people get Neil touring all year... and One All - yep, it must be a real shame . But seriously, I buy anything Neil Finn -related I can get my hands on (I even bought his book - Love This Life ... for AU$28 ). I actually bought the 7 Worlds Collide DVD without even owning a DVD player! - that's dedication for you! It sent me broke again, but at least I can have years of enjoyment out of it ... actually that won't be the case unless I can get hold of a DVD player...

I just think for the amount of experience the guy has, and the amount of talent the guy has, his playing isn't necessarily very original, unusually skillful, or very passionate -- but understated rather than distinctive....things that usually grab me right away. I am referring mostly to his solo work, although can think of a couple CH examples where I felt this was the case. There's this guy at my old church named Gordon Lewis, in his late 50's, who looks EXACTLY like Neil. In fact, I teased him about it often and even brought in a photo of Neil to show him and his wife...they were very amused by the resemblance. certainly it's true many parents find themselves conceiving of things in all new ways when they have a life to protect. but i don't think it's maternal (or paternal) so much as human. because it's really about care, and thoughtfulness, and a sense of oneself as connected to others. and i agree that it's a shame that those gifted enough to be able to express true concern are being suppressed in most of the media. the fact that questioning whether we should go to WAR sets you up as some...

Yes, it bugs me a lot. I feel rather powerless about it, too. And somewhat voiceless... I happen to be living in Texas, the breeding ground for war-mongers like George Dubya... and the public opinion here seems to be highly supportive of this sh*t. Not that I'm going around asking people their opinion or anything, because I find its safer not to discuss politics with people around here... Fair enough. I can accept your majority very negative opinions Frenz. But IMHHO we should be encouraging MORE artists to cover Finn songs -as if 2 give them more exposure. Personally I would take it as a compliment if any1 covered my song, no matter who or what genre artist does it. Remember these/any artists spend their whole life working hard on their craft. Any thing that is mass produced - SNTR, Britney Spears, Bardot, Popstars, Scandulus, Nikki Webster etc et al has some redeemable...

congrats on the baby lozza, now for my injuries at gigs. mushroom 25th anniversary concert melbourne 1998. pissed off that the enz weren't playing but got over it. still went with 'access all areas' from my dad. which was very cool. we were pretty much there for the whoel day. after dad's little set we went out for tea at this little restaurant close to the venue. Re: Gemini's question...I saw a "making of LOTR" special on HBO last year, in relation to the first movie. Orlando Bloom, during his interview, had a mohawk, several piercings, and a black shirt with some sort of logo on it so offensive that even a station like HBO, who revels in shock value, saw fit to digitally blur it, and I have to admit I thought it looked like it could have been a swastika. Hi Jamie - Visiting your brother sounds like a great thing to add in to a trip to see Neil. I'd love to join you, except that I have a few things on the homefront that I can't leave right now. I think Neil came to Denver a few times when I was there, but for some reason the idea of seeing him live hadn't occurred to me yet in life (I think that was because I got into Crowded House long before I became a concert goer and the thought never translated that gap). Peter - Thanks for the info re the Millennium concert. I presumed that there was something wrong with the recording and that was why its release had been vetoed. Split Enz don't seem to have much luck recording their reunions! Such a shame, because from what I heard, the band was really firing. It reminded me far more of a crowded house gig than Spl;it Enz, a really comfortable feeling from the band, and Tim going out on a limb singing I Hope I Never on acoustic, and really nailing those...

Welcome to our crayzay forum...stay awhile and hope you like it here! I have to say, regardless of any absurdities that may stream from your star-struck mouth when you meet Neil Finn, he is both patient and gracious, also good-humored and personable. At least he has been on both occasions I met him (and once was in Chicago). I have also experienced those qualities in Tim and his wife Marie. You *will* be blown away by the show, and I have gotten close to a few of the kewl Frenz folks I met...

Well, I absolutely HATE the music of Abba and think of them as nothing more than writers of catchy, throwaway bubblegum pop. I don't think they excelled as musicians at all - songwriters and arrangers with an acute ability to write a hit single, maybe yes. I'm kind of an astrology freak and have many books on the subject, but yeh it's hard to do a birth chart if you dont know what time he was born. I remember when I first saw Neil on the street after a show it was hard to believe that this was the guy who was just BLOWING MY MIND when he was on stage. He didn't even look like I thought Neil would look.(He was much more worn looking than I expected.) I wish I had known then that he doesn't like to sign autographs because I felt like I could only approach him to say hi if I had something to sign. I had the same experience with Paul Westerberg. God, he was the nicest rock star I have ever met (and strangely I've met quite a few here in Seattle from Jonathan Richman to Peter Buck). I was so afraid to meet him because I would be crushed if he was rude. But he was incredibly gracious. I imagine Neil to be amzingly friendly. But I would be afraid to meet him. He's quite close to a deity in my mind. I think it's the part of my thinking that has decided to remain a teenager.

It struck me also how "normal" he looks and that made me, for some strange reason, an even bigger fan. I only ask because I have only ever been totally into one other band ( not to the extent that I have loved Split Enz, Crowded House and Neil) and when I actually got to see them up close, they were shorter then me ( I'm 5' 7") and for some reason after that- I was totally disappointed..something about them putting off such an energy about them-this huge personality,...
