From The Australian. With apologies to those who don't find it funny. It made me laugh. Tim Blair: Unwanted old Oilman faces limited options December 05, 2002 WHO will ever forget where they were when they learned that Peter Garrett had left Midnight Oil to "immerse himself in those things which are of deep concern to me"? I was in McDonald's eating an excellent Salsa Burger. A fellow diner looked up from his newspaper and told a friend: "Peter Garrett's quit the Oils!" The friend's reply:...

'The Instrumental' is an awesome song, but sadly, it seems that it's another "lost" song from the early Judd/Finn era that was never properly recorded in a studio...along with scores of others, e.g. 'Wise Men', 'Buffs', 'City Of Dreams', 'True Colours', 'Prophecy', 'Hermine'........

Hey "S. God"....like all charts the ARIA DVD chart goes by sales from certain stores...HMV etc. Targets and Woolies rarely count towards chart points BUT I prefer 5000 fans to buy it at $28 from Target then $36 at HMV if it means losing a few chart points no big deal....so in reality tthe Enz might be selling more then some of those artists but people are buying the DVD from a non chart store. That's what is happening with the Enz DVD, most sales are from cheaper stores. The Enz have sold...

Good point. I'm also pretty sure 100% of record sales from SAN!TY don't count towards the Aria chart either; they have their own chart (too cool for the rest of the nation ), so it might even be worth looking on the SAN!TY chart for Dreaming , although last time I checked they only had a top 50 singles & albums chart (not a DVD chart, but I couldn't be certain). Chart Update: Aria* haven't updated their DVD chart this week .

I really wouldn't worry. The media has an annoying tendency to OVER-sensationalise things since TIME IMMEMORIAL . That's the media's job. It wouldn't be media without (me) in it. Just have a look at what Tim Finn had to say it about it in his latest single "What You've Done" : "And the newspaper reporters spoiling ALL the fun" If you think about it there have been over 400 days since 9/11/2001 . There have ONLY been terrorist attacks on NO more than 20 or so of those days. That's a very low...

As an Australian living in the US the thing that has struck me most since September 11 is the prevailing attitude that sending men with guns into the middle east will somehow solve this problem . . . . Flicker Probably a lot of the current Judd fans wern't aware of the band when they first released Mental Notes, a few might of only been pretty young...hence one small reason why M.N never was supported by them. I know I only bought my copy 6 or 8 months after release in Australia. Your description is the right one, it's exactly what I ment. Forget the "lacking". Neils songs are perfect within themselves. I too like TA is even better than Woodface, mainly because of its atmosphere. I also think that Crowded House wasn't ready to make an album like TA when they started on WF. Therefore it was good that Tim came along on that moment, it give CH a great album and a breakthrough in Europe. It's true CH ows a lot to Tim. Did you notice the difference? On Woodface Tim sings...

And if you hear some of the songs left off the album like 'left hand', you'll realise that it's a good thing Tim came along. It's a funny point about Neil singing high and Tim low on the Finn album. But I think Timbo will be singing high again on the new Finn2 thing. Tim's singing better these days than he has for years. I think Tim will surprise some people when the new album gets released. It's a hard thing to explain, but musicals can be strange animals and something like this with a band, body mics and pre records is a big juggling act that requires expertise - and as far as I'm concerned, there's really only one company in the country that gets it right. There were subtle differences in 2 of the tracks - "Sinner" had a different mix, and sounds subtly different from the eventual single release. As I recall it's longer too. "Astro" has a voice (presumably Neil's) counting the track in at the start. The studio version of "Sprit Of The Stairs" is indeed included, and from what I remember, the only other difference is that "King Tide" is listed with it's original title "Low World", although the song content is identical.

What a horrible year for the Oscars. Most of these nomiations are for movies all about Gloom and Doom, and I can't help but think of this as an echo of the American climate: "the year of the middle-aged, white conservative voter."
