Both of these tracks are absolutely brilliant! Garden Varieties in particular sounds like Neil writing sunshine pop What are the plans for Mode Atlanta's future?

Missed this the first time around, thanks for reviving it, Hawk. Yes, a couple of very nice tracks. A little XTC-ish, too (in a good way). As I'm from the southern USA, curious as to "Atlanta" in your band name.

Thanks Hawk57 and Steve for having a listen, glad your digging it! Plans for the future, we're recording two more songs in April then bundling them with They Love You and Garden Varieties and releasing as an EP, we're also going to make a short youtube series in which we pair acoustic recordings of some newer songs with footage shot at our drummer's new place. As for the name, it was just one of those things i thought up when half asleep, you know when the synapses are firing different ways...

Good to hear there's more on the way! I thought I might have heard a touch of REM influence in Garden Varieties but I wasn't sure if it was just because of your name. Also I could understand the lyrics which isn't like REM at all

I feel that this decision, from the limited info we have, has already divided the fandom like nothing before it. We may well be the greatest and more friendliest bunch of fans on the planet, but we're all human. Elsewhere on the internet (Facebook) there have been major arguments that have transitioned into flat-out name-calling. We're all going to have our own opinions and disagree with others, but that's really where it should end in my opinion. Ideally we shouldn't be taking offence at...

Good points! One thing I've learnt from fan communities is that if the artist isn't reading and not commenting, then 100 percent people around them are.

Unfortunatley , being told what to think , or what not to think , or that it’s ridiculous to put so much importance on Mark - are all things very likely to cause offence - along with the blatant name calling . ive found the “ finn bros appreciation “ page on Facebook to be the worst . The rest of the sites including this one seem fine really

Having seen several fan communities become boiling cesspools of hate when a band does something that some fans disagree with, I can understand the concern of the OP here. Some people seem to take decisions made by bands very personally, and while I can understand that some people may be disappointed by various things happening, some 'fans' seem to become obsessed with bringing the band down. And, to an extent, that can ruin things for actual fans of the band who might want to continue...

Oh yes there are different opinions out there but I dont think it is as out of control as the LB/FM saga ..the angst that went and still goes on! (will they ever let go?) I dont think the same can be said about Frenz and our own band lineup change. I think the divide is more about the why ( which has not been stated) and who is worthy to replace Mark. No one in my fandom eyes but that is just me

I've seen worse than the FM saga, much worse. But, I don't want to say which band as I've moved on from that argument and don't want to start it again.

An open letter to all Crowdies

The Pineapple Head ·
Hello everyone. I've always felt that the Crowded House/Frenz community has been a like minded and mostly agreeing place. Sure, we have different opinions but there's always underlying respect. However, after the recent business with Mark Hart, I'm worried what will become of this fandom. Neil's decision has been extremely divisive and have no doubt that no matter what some people will be unhappy with the result. I, myself have my reservations. Still it will be interesting to see what...

Re: FOTE digital releases?

Enzboy ·
I doubt very much that this would happen due to the fact that the record company had issues with the fan club selling the live CDs, that's why they ceased producing more of them. Even though it states on the back sleeves "Thanks to EMI", it does not necessarily mean that EMI gave the fan club permission to release the live material due to EMI holding some rights (or all) over the material that was used. That is why they are regarded as bootleg CDs. They are highly sought after CDs. Releasing...

IIRC, there was an agreement between EMI and the fan club that the club could release a very specific number of live CDs. That's why they are only something like 500 copies of each. I think a website of digital live albums would be incredible, but it seems unlikely that the demand is there to support it. Crowded House really should put out some more live material in an official capacity. They were just as good live as they were in the studio and it's a shame that we only have the Recurring...

Yeah, any re-release would need record company permission. After all, they're the ones who own the rights to the recordings. I very much doubt they'd allow that. It's amazing really that they allowed the fan club to do it. I strongly suspect that that's why the club always stipulated they could only be sold on to other fan club members and at face value and why the clamped down on eBay auctions etc. It really is a shame because they're a treasure trove of fabulous performances. My biggest...

The fan club live releases are a really valuable resource of the band's live output covering all of the early tours that aren't represented much elsewhere, certainly not officially beyond select b-side tracks. One drawback is that they have been edited to facilitate a single disc release so are frustratingly incomplete. While the Recurring Dream bonus disc (a compilation of performances) and the Farewell To The World release (also an incomplete performance) remain the only live releases put...

Some interesting posts in this thread! Great memory with all the live material released @The Ligature . Those 2007 and 2010 boxed sets were a godsend, even with all the delays, printing errors and flimsy 2007 physical box. I also grabbed those three USBs Apollo shows at the time, although I'm still missing two of the five Live on Earth CDs (Birmingham and London). Live in Philadelphia '87 was since issued on CD in 2016, although this might only be considered semi-official. An official (or...

Have a listen to my band Mode Atlanta - shades of Crowded House, or so i hope!

Hello Frenz, long time follower, Frenz life member and occasional poster here. I'd love for you all to have a listen to my band Mode Atlanta. These are our first two recorded tracks, they're called "They Love You" and "Garden Varieties". The reason i post them here is because Crowded House and Neil Finn's music has been a huge influence on my own songwriting, from the way i present my music (artwork that evokes childhood but through the eyes of adulthood, thanks Nick ;) to lyrical matter...

Wanting to Purchase 'Letters to my Frenz' - Split Enz Book

Finntothebrim ·
Hi everyone, I realise this is a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone would be willing to sell me a copy of Letters to my Frenz . I have wanted this book for such a long time and have never seen a copy for sale since its original release (which I missed out on). If anyone would be able to help, that would be much appreciated!

I know the club stopped running a couple of years ago. It was a rule that club only releases only be sold to other members. Every now and again you see people trying to sell club CDs for insane amounts to non members. There's differing views as to whether the club rules should still apply as it's no longer going. I'd suggest posting in the Wanted section of Frenz. And maybe some of the Finn/Crowdies Facebook pages. Someone may have a spare. Good luck.

Yeah, It closed a few years after I joined, but I still got to acquire some really cool things during my time as a member. I can understand that rule and I read the rather long pinned post regarding the regulations surrounding selling/trading items. Thank you for your help, I'll take your advice and post on the various Finn Facebook pages I'm part of!

Good luck. Maybe someone's got a spare they can sell you. I joined the club around 00/01. It was when they did a one of reprint on CDR of the earlier fanclub CDs. There was a lot. Got as many as I could afford and kept up with all the releases going forward.

Together Alone Font

HelpIsComing ·
Hello All, haere mai etc... I've recently been working on crudely replicating the font from Together Alone (the one written on the car). What I've done so far basically covers the entire alphabet with most letters having a second version to mix up the consistency and make it look less... repetitive, they are all hand drawn characters replicated from/based around Nick Seymour's original artwork. The finished product looks pretty nice. I'm also working on expanding it to include Maori symbols...
