It's more for the Paul association and wanting newer fans to know really. Even though he was moody in places on that 93 tour, the drumming was incredible and it was a special mini tour. Minor issue though because people are likely to get into the band and find out anyway I suppose.

Thanks for letting me know. Funny, I've always thought of this song as a precursor to "Saturday Sun." The live version ( here ) seemed to be pretty mature, so I guess they had all but abandoned it by the time of that studio recording. I wouldn't say it was one of my favorites from the Intriguer tour, but the line "a moment froze in time, you feel when cars collide" is one of the ones that stuck with me immediately and it's never left.

"789" was also often played on tour 2008., and that song was precedeer of Intriguer song. Have to say that when I heard 789 developed into Intriguer song live 2008., I was pretty dissapointed. But, studio version made it right, its just perfect to me!

Been absent for a long time from these boards now: plus with a fair amount of digestion time.... I think the basic problem was Intriguer ended up overworked and overcooked. The initial 2008 tour should really have been the album. If i remember rightly Neil was looking to make the takes from the live recordings to use at a later date. Whether that proved impossible to do? Those songs on the initial shows in Leigh Sawmills shows in New Zealand were generally not the best versions ... Twice If...

I listened to the live stream, I've listened to hundreds of bootlegs. Neil sounds older - no surprise there. I also think he was singing a bit softly perhaps because they were in a small and intimate setting or perhaps because he's being careful with his voice. Whatever the reason I didn't feel that it impacted the quality of his performance, which was terrific and suited the setting. It's certainly much better than his vocal performance during the Intriguer US tour. Those live recordings...

I wasn't able to get it to load. Darn thing must have been stuck on eleven. I agree about Neil's voice on the tour with the mustache. Once he shaved it off, the chicago show for instance, I thought he sounded a lot better. However I was well lubricated that night so perhaps I'm mistaken. But I remember that he and the band Looked fabulous!

Nice list! I would add Phil Manzanera's K-Scope which like Southern Cross featured Tim on lead vocals for a few tracks. Other Enzers were also involved. Mark Hart was a member of Supertramp for a few albums before and after Crowded House. Neil was featured prominently on several Dave Dobbyn albums including as producer and co-songwriter on Twist. Phil contributed music to a movie called Amy in 1997 but I don't know if the soundtrack was officially released.

You wouldn't call it an obscure part of their catalog, but in the context of live performances, a song which was either never played or only on the tour following the album qualifies for obscurity. I've tried my darnedest to find live performances of my favourite song from the debut album, Tombstone. The only rendition saw Neil relying on lyrics from a parchment scroll an awesome fan had made. It can't be easy remembering a track you haven't done for decades and half the band members have...

Would be shocked if they played Go Your Own Way as one of the two songs. I reckon there would be more chance of them playing a couple of Billy Burnette-era tracks... While I expect Go Your Own Way to be a concert staple for the new line-up (and probably be the only true "Lindsay" song Neil sings on the tour) I'd be very surprised if the two songs weren't one each for Christine and Stevie (Eg. Dreams, Over My Head, Gypsy, Everywhere, Landslide, Love In Store, Rhiannon, etc.) Then again, I...

I had an idea today that could work well for the new Fleetwood Mac. The band would pick seven or more pre-Lindsey songs that would fit nicely with the new lineup. For example, Oh Well, Dust, Come A Little Bit Closer, Why, For Your Love, Green Manalishi, Hypnotized, Man of The World, Spare Me A Little of Your Love, and The Way I Feel are some possibilities. Then have the new lineup record new versions of these songs. Perhaps someone like Mitchell Froom could produce. In addition, have Neil,...

Ignorant? Seriously? I am well aware of Fleetwood Mac’s existence before Lindsey Buckingham, but I am not a blues fan so don’t listen to those albums. I was warmer towards Bob Welch and actually really loved the Heroes Are Hard to Find album. But I am one who says it’s not Fleetwood Mac (that I would care to listen to) without Lindsey Buckingham. Ignorant? Seriously? Wow.

Saying LB was the heart of Fleetwood Mac is lan interesting take on things! Not one shared with the vast majority. You don't consider Paul McCartney a lead singer or core member? Seriously, how can you say that? If Mccartney can tour from 1989 to 2018 dong 50% Beatles material, without core elements of the band - Lennon, Harrison and Starr...then certainly Fleetwood Mac can do it without LB. If the band are up for it , it's their choice and right.

Re: Should there be a new Finn Brothers album and why?

Paināporo ·
Can we just have Tim guest on the new Crowded House album? Honestly, I think it was a mistake not to have made Everyone Is Here a Crowded House album. It could have been phenomenal, IMHO. I know Paul couldn't have replicated some of the incredible percussion tracks on songs like "Homesick", but I think the trade off of marketing it as a true Crowded House album (with Tim Finn!) would have totally been worth it! Would a new Finn Brothers album be worth it if there were no tour to support it?

The thing is, how would such a collection be compiled? A great many tracks were only released in the UK, and some were exclusive to other territories. So, would a box be based on UK singles, Aussie singles or a hybrid? Would it be vinyl only (pointless IMO) or make use of the multiple formats that were issued on CD in the 1990s?

A tricky one . I started collecting the singles and had a list ( from somewhere) to check off from.I got them all save Better Be Home Soon which at that time was priced at £20.. far too much so I didn't bother. Most of the "singles" as you know were "doubles" with alternative "B" sides of live tracks and of course we have the special World Where You Live single which after 8 years or so shatters to small pieces without warning and Locked Out which becomes covered in some sort of plastic...

Which means it's about 27 years since I discovered the album, albeit via Second Thoughts. Wow, time flies. But because I played Second Thoughts to death first, I actually prefer that. Not to say Mental Notes isn't genius too. Now if only for a 40th anniversary tour with a guest slot by Phil Judd. The good thing is that it will be the 40th anniversary of all the albums in turn soon. Anniversary Tour for each one playing each album in entirety? Haha.

Bollinger’s comments on Where’s My Room resonate with me: “I don’t know how it ranks as a song, with a lyric that makes rather a meal out of a mundane scenario the Finns must be only too familiar with: losing track of one’s hotel room during a tour. Still, as a studio event it’s delightful...” Lots of fun-to-listen-to studio work on this album. But the songs themselves don’t always stand up for me beyond being a framework over which to go nuts in the studio. The more traditional songs seem a...

Thank you all for the welcome I like the Lightning Seeds Dizzy Heights album a lot, it was nice to hear more of a band sound than the synths and drum machines on Jollification. It's interesting because I see Neil and Ian as opposite sides of the same coin, the Lightning Seeds stuff is in general pretty immediate and obviously 'hooky' whereas I find Neils work to be sonically deeper and not as immediate but longer term more gratifying if that makes sense!
