Crowded House - 'Something So Strong' by Chirs Bourke (MacMillan, 1997)is also a great read if you are interested in finn-related books. I also think Neil brought out a small book with his last tour but i'm not sure. I would love to get my hands on a copy of 'Stranger Than Fiction'. I think it was published in 1991.

I forgot to mention another sad piece of trivia that got me all excited! When I was watching the Anniversary clip of Shark Attack, I noticed that the percussion roles were reversed. Noel playing drums, and Paul playing percussion. Was this standard for the anniversary tour? I always presumed it was noel playing the hi hats on the anniversary version of Strait Old Line, and speaking of this version of the song, has anyone noticed the absence of any vocals by Tim (except 'everybody into the...

I finally got my very own copy of the Enz DVD yesterday. To begin with, I felt a wee bit guilty about splashing out NZ$40, especially as I don't have my own DVD player. However, since the DVD is selling like hotcakes, I decided "yeah, why not?". First impressions of my first-ever DVD? WOW!!! This thing is fantastic. It's hard to pick out one particular favourite feature, as the whole package is great. Despite having had limitations on what could be licenced for use on the DVD and also time...

Yeah I agree 100%, think it's why I really dig what Bic Runga does- guitar, songwriter, vocalist....NZ people are so lucky with Bic doing this tour, wish we had the budget to do that one would of been fun. Tim has been doing a lot of swimming over the last few years and I started recently and it seems to allow you an extra surge of energy during the day.....he usually goes out for a swim when we are on the road. He still amazes me during I See Red after all these years.... PG

Nah "Who can it be " you seem to not understand the actual point around budgets. It's a bit of a naive statement.... SFK and every single other band you mentioned are NEW bands. They have everything on digital, there are very little costs. The cost of getting the Spellbound doco alone would be close to the cost of the whole George DVD. The reason I know this, the George DVD was done at the same time as ours by the same company....plus their manager is our old tour manager...anyway all they...

A great doco, but, with regard to the audio, 'Enz With A Muffle' would have been a more appropriate title. The audio quality was atrocious, especially at the start. You can hardly even hear those fans talking. A fabulous record of the 'Enz With A Bang' tour, though. Some fab interview clips, great performances and it gave another point of view to actually see video footage that accompanies recordings on the Living Enz album. It was also was a real treat to see the vintage Telethon '75...

Donovan no talk that I ama ware of , as far as the Enz recording again... Neil especially enjoyed the night at the Holmes show, and the band are playing really well.....gues sit depends on what everyone is doing, the overall vibe, Neil has a USA tour and than T&N are talking about Finn II etc...so the time factor comes into play, plus the other guys all have lives too (: Still with the Enz you can never say never... I'm not sure, but if you have seen it, Tim does one handed push-ups on " Nobody Takes Me Seriously Anyway:" And he does "Shark Attack" , "I See Red" etc, ...wears a shirt with puffy sleaves and a captains hat....Is that the one? Because that's the one my Brother has, which I would like to burn on DVD for my own personal viewing. But bootleg is better than nothing. See ya in Te Awatamutu!

Hey... the Vic is on about the corner of Belmont & Sheffield and has no real alleyway...they park the tour buses right infront of the venue, so we've chatted w/Neil when he has come out afterward. I also think he stayed at The Willows last time, a hotel in that area...so you may want to hang there. Neil's always been pretty tired after shows and his tours have been pretty tight, so whatever, you know??? Good luck!

You know SarahBee, I've thought about that many times before. Sometimes I can't muster up the energy or nerve to do it, but when I have, I've never been disappointed. Neil usually takes a half an hour or so to come out and greet people. The crowds are typically smaller, so you'll have a great chance to talk to him and have him sign something if you want usually at the bus or back door. I even caught him at Gourmet Garage (a sort-of prepared food/grocery store)in nyc before a show on the TWT...

Sarah, As a follow-up to my earlier story about meeting Neil at Gourmet Garage...I wanted to expand because I really did ask him some goofy stuff now that I remember. This may also help to show you that rehearsing is not important (or maybe it is in my case!). I walked into the store at 6pm the night of the Bowery Ballroom show (TWT tour, second NYC show) to get a snack before I had to pick up my friend for the show. I was shopping around looking at the door thinking about how excited I was...

The Enz played Ballarat a few times, but the Hester show was quite an interesting one. It was certainly bad timing for Molly Meldrum as the Frenz of the Enz club hired a bus to take members to this first show. The thing that always amazed me was simply it was a good show, not a brilliant show, but a good show, and from memory THREE quite solid encores tended to show that the crowd wanted more. I played a tape of that gig recently and it sounds like a typical Enz show from the time. Quite a...

Great show last night. Arrived late and only caught the last two minutes of the Rhett Miller set. The band was a little less polished than last summer in DC - not surprising, given that (1) Lisa Germano was absent due to friend's illness, (2) first show on the tour, (3) preponderance of live "rarities" in the set. Steinberg needed to turn down the amp on his bass. About five songs in Neil asked who had been at the show last summer, and then who hadn't - sounded like about 60% of audience was...

Yes, it was a great show. I know what you mean, Mari, about the vibe in the venue, but I also wondered if some of that formality and hesitation at the start of the set was just because it's early on in the tour, maybe it takes him longer to get his groove. If you leave NYC at 6:30 by car you get stuck in bridge or tunnel traffic- Manhattan is an island. It was raining in NYC on Friday afternoon, which makes traffic worse. Amtrak Train is the best way to get from NY to Philly. The train probably originated in Penn station, and I'm pretty sure a limo took them from NBC...

Split Enz (with Neil) toured Canada in October 1980, July 1981, and May-June 1982. "Time and Tide" was released in early 1982. But, if you saw a 1982/Time & Tide concert it obviously couldn't have been Neil's "first tour." Hope that narrows things down a bit!
