Re: Mold on UK CD singles
Sorry to hear you've been affected by this - It's not mould or fungus, it's a known chemical reaction between the CD surface and the printing inks that they were using in the early 90's out of EMI's Swindon plant for the digi-packs - found out about this 10 years ago when my copy of Locked Out had same thing happen and did some research to find what issue was - unfortunately it renders the discs unplayable You might find copies on eBay, just make sure you get any seller to send you recent...

Re: Mold on UK CD singles
Hi seem to remember people saying that if you use Exact Audio Copy this will copy the disc even though the original won't play. Never tried though.

Re: Mold on UK CD singles
Thanks for the replies. My computer won't even recognise or read the disc. But I'll give it a go as nothing else is working. Thanks

Re: Mold on UK CD singles
Hi again, I downloaded EAC but as mentioned my CD drive doesnt even read that theres a disc in the drive All I want is the live b-sides off Locked Out, so if you can help with those that would be great?

Re: Mold on UK CD singles
so I dug on my cd singles stack and managed to find all the CH UK double packs. Unfortunately I also have some of them that have that kind of mold on them too. I managed to clean them with those magic eraser sponges and it kinda worked. I can play the cds on my computer. So will send you the links to your mail. Let me know if you need songs from the other damaged singles.

Re: Mold on UK CD singles
My copies of Distant Sun and locked out double pack with the album lyrics both ended up with this bizarre white frosty / Cristalised stuff on them - is this the same as others are mentioning here ? I succesfully managed to clean mines with a baby wipe , and they work fine now . In my thousands of cds , they're the only ones it's ever happened to. Baby wipes are great

Re: Mold on UK CD singles
Yep, it's the same I had (also on fingers of love double cd pack). I cleaned them with this magic eraser sponge and they are readable again.

Re: Mold on UK CD singles
Yeah sorry it's the fingers of love double that has the ta lyrics . Happened to mines too

Re: Mold on UK CD singles
Yes that frosting is the same. I managed to clean them up as well but only Locked Out is unreadable sadly. Many thanks to Patjoller for sending me the b-sides

Also, all the remasters are available for pre-order on Amazon! http://amzn.to/2d6cJ4e

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
I've found in the past that Amazon somehow seems to be cheaper than the actual source , and often wonder how that's possible !

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
Also wondering , will the "boxed set " option be available on Amazon, as that's supposed to save money - if you're buying everything. Bit of a bummer, that Time On Earth isn't included in that Bundle though - serious frustration for the completist !

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
Because they do that fabulous off-shore bank account thing where they get to pay no tax. Which is why they've been able to consistently out-price other retailers for so long.

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
Does anyone know if the "boxed set" version of both formats with the free tote bag will be available on amazon and the likes, or is that exclusive to the crowded house website?

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
I think it's just a deal Universal are doing for anyone who wants to buy the whole set. I'm surprise that Amazon are so uncompetitive at the moment. Personally, I prefer to buy from my local record store a) to keep people in jobs and record stores on High Streets, and b) in order to make returns easier if I need to. But the price differential between Universal and Amazon is likely to be replicated in stores as well which is really tempting me to go down the Universal route.

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
I certainly hope £25 isn't the normal price in-store. Amazon often drop prices at the last minute (Conor Oberst's album has dropped to £9.99 after being almost £16 since it was listed). They're the equivalent of £13 each on Amazon Canada. I expect the UK price to fall to something similar, certainly cheaper than the £19 per double CD charged by Universal.

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
I sincerely hope so. Actually, what I really hope is that my local record store has them in for much less than £25. I'd much rather buy them in-store than worry about shipping damage etc.

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
Ok, looking for advice here! . Through some skillful eBay selling etc I've raised the cash for the box sets. I know Amazon will come down in price, but at the moment it's working out around £70 cheaper to buy the " boxed set " option direct from universal.. Surely Amazon won't reduce prizes by more than £10 per cd?! I'm thinking of going ahead and ordering the "boxed set" now? Thoughts?

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
I've been thinking the same thing but I'm really wary of ordering from Universal in case I have to arrange returns. I just can't help thinking it'd be a palaver. Amazon, for all it's faults, has a fabulous and simple returns policy.

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
It's been so long since I ordered anything online, I'm a bit out of the loop as to what options there are now. Most places I used to order from have now closed down. There's Universal and Amazon... what else? HMV? Any suggestions?

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
I'm beginning to lose faith that these 2cd sets will be available at less than the £19 charged at the official store. Amazon and HMV are charging £25 in most cases. Like everything, my money is finite. In principle I just can't justify £20 for a 2cd set, especially when I have one of the discs. I appreciate that serious work has gone into them, but I'm not aware of any major reissue campaign that's went down the deluxe 2cd route and pitched them with such a high price point. It also seems...

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
Ok, I've taken the plunge and ordered the Vinyl set from universal . At £88 delivered, I can't see Amazon beating that price ? I'll ponder the CD's over the next few days - suffice to say that Amazon are still listing them at £24.99 a pop ....

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
Amazon UK now down to £14.99 for all but Time On Earth (which is at £18.95) - time to buy I reckon - if they drop the price further they'll pass that on to you, but they can't make you pay more even if the price rises again.

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
That's good enough for me to bite. Money's still tight, so I'm limiting myself to 3 on release. Together Alone and Afterglow are definite - for anyone that's heard a lot of the unreleased stuff, do you have suggestions for unmissable material? I'm tempted by Intriguer as the less 'produced' material might be a revelation, but the earlier albums certainly boast a greater number of bonus tracks.

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
Thanks Sad Claude for flagging this. £14.99 per album is not a bad price. I've been holding off going for the Universal box set, but might take the plunge now with Amazon, though maybe only the first 4 or 5 albums for now.

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
I've received an email from Amazon advising that the deluxe CD of Time on Earth has been put back to Nov 11 by Universal. Wonder why.

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
According to my retailer Time on Earth is released by a different record company...! remember the vinyl TOE is delayed too.... and the price for that title is higher than the others

Re: UK and EU orders for new box set
Not now it isn't. Amazon UK has dropped the price to match the other titles. And I thought ToE was issued on Universal (at least in the UK anyway).

Have you tried Discogs.com ? Lots of vinyl and CD's for Split Enz available at reasonable prices ... depends on what you want and your price limits. You may want to put a list of wants on this thread and be surprised at what can be offered to you .. Good luck.

UK and EU orders for new box set
Through this forum I got the link to this site: https://store.universalmusic.com/crowdedhouse/ I ordered the CD's there. The price is quite a bit higher than in the Australian store, but as p&p from Australia is much more expensive and import duties will also be an issue, for those in the EU, ordering from this UK-based Universal shop makes sense as in the end it will probably be cheaper and faster than having stuff sent over from Australia. I'm a bit surprised though that this UK shop...

Mold on UK CD singles
Just thought I'd ask you about this. As a collector of Crowded House for about 30 years, I went through my CD singles recently to rip them to iTunes - unsure why I haven't done this earlier! I was copying the UK pressings of CD singles (all the double packs) from the Woodface album (Nails In My Feat, Locked Out and Distant Sun). To my shock when I looked at the playing surface of ALL of the 6 CDs they all had this mold or fungus on it. It wasn't the furry kind that grows on fruit, it was...
