Re: September 1986 - September 2016...

I tend towards the assumption that there's nothing major behind announcement delays. That is, there's nothing for us to worry over/get excited about. It's probably just making sure that everything is in place promotion-wise before hitting the Go button. But it's the "newly mastered" bit that worries me. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the mastering on the first three albums - in fact, it's pretty much as good as one could want IMO. Together Alone could use a little less compression but...

Release date on Amazon in the US is not until November 18 for the vinyl. No mention yet of the CD's. I think I'm going to wait and see if it is possible to just purchase the bonus tracks in download form at some point. I have no real desire to repurchase CD's of albums I already own, especially when I hardly ever listen to CD's any more.

I think the main reason to remaster any album of that era is, analog-to-digital conversion is vastly better than it was 20-30 years ago. All other things being equal, they will sound better for that reason. But I share your worry that all other things will likely not be equal..

What would be great is if Try Whistling this is re-released in the same way and One Nil sometime soon. I can't decide which is my favorite, they both have good vibes about them for me. I am shocked at the lack of airplay One Nil got the year it was released, and finally got round to ordering One All so it will be interesting to hear the difference. Tokyo is a song I have now heard, as for the others not so much. So if you want to hear them you have to find the singles. Sinner and She will...

Many thanks for this and enjoying the Steve Hoffman threads. I have a listing of “Sound of Truth” and “I can’ Stand it” from the Woodface era. Any ideas? Dylan

I've heard of "Sound of Truth": an early version of "Always Never Now." But I've never heard it. I've never heard of "I Can't Stand It." Would love to hear both of those. However, At any rate, I'm fairly certain they've never been released officially in any form and thus have been left off this list.

Tim Finn Kitchen Sink: a chronological reference guide

Lance LaSalle ·
Although Tim Finn has no convenient Kitchen Sink collections like that which Neil Finn (and Jaffaman) have generously provided to us fans, this is a list is meant to collate various Tim Finn or Tim Finn associated songs that have been released here and there in various forms in chronological. Due to the fact that there are no deluxe editions of Tim Finn albums as there are of Crowded House, this list of odds and sods is quite a bit longer than Neil's. I've also included prominent guest spots...

September 1986 - September 2016...

BRANDO BRANDT ·
I'm very curious as to what might have delayed the 'official' announcement around the upcoming releases, as well as the logic behind a September release date. Don't Dream It's Over was released in Oct. 86' and aside from Now We're Getting Somewhere having been released in Sept. 86', I don't really see the connection between the dates. I'm still hopeful that with the official announcement, we'll get a surprise 2016-2017 Crowded House Tour. Maybe that's why Management and the band are being so...

I've revised this slightly. 1978: They Won't Let My Girlfriend Talk To Me( demo, released on Other Enz) Remote Control (Phil Manzanera) Cuban Crisis(Phil Manzanera Hot Spot (Phil Manzanera -- vocals only) Slow Motion TV (Phil Manzanera--vocals only) Message Boy ( 1979 Split Enz B-side, later released on Rootin' Tootin' Luton Tapes) Semi-Detached (1979 B-side, later released on Rear En z and Rootin' Tootin' Luton Tapes) Hyptnotised (Split Enz, 1980 B-side, later released on Rootin' Tootin'...

Great list Lance. Just looking at the Split Enz era tracks, you could add "Jolted" (from "Oddz & Enz") and "Murder" and "Something To Do" (both live from "I Like It Rare" series). Possibly also "Merry Christmas From The Frenz Of The Enz". Also "Hermit McDermit" (7") and "Mind Over Matter " (A&M "Frenzy") were earlier releases of Luton versions. Plenty of live versions of otherwise released tracks left off, but you may not have wanted to include these. "Another Great Divide" was...

YOu're right, I have missed those. I did deliberately leave off the live B-sides (for now). I'll probably redo this at some later point to include them. I did a list for Neil, too, and as we all know, there are so many live B-sides with Crowded House, I was a bit daunted at the work so when I feel ready to tackle that I'll do both of them.

Fantastic find re "Quasimodo's Dream". That's definitely a new one for the completists. Your other titles are all from "White Cloud". Except "Family Images" and "Into This Place" don't exist as far as I know - definitely not performed as part of "White Cloud", but likely refer to some of the spoken word component. It's a tragedy that the full "White Cloud" has not been released, as well as more from the "Ladies In Black", "Twelfth Night", "Vermilion Sands", "Forenzics" and "Star Navigator"...

Hi all, my first post here. I've been reading this subject with great interest. I love making rarities compilations for my favourite artists and recently decided to re-research Tim's rarities and update my compilation discs. Your information has been of great help. Thank you. I guess we all approach these things a little differently, my criteria is usually just to have everything where the artists vocals are prominent, and thats how I've been collating my Tim Finn discs. In doing so I have...

Curious about "Quasimodo's Dream"; the other versions on youtube indicate it was a hit for the Reels. Did Tim write it? If not, odd that Tim would be doing a cover on a show where the host calls him one of the best songwriters around. Also, has anyone heard any buzz about when Forenzics may be coming out? And David, I agree that more of Tim's "projects" deserve more wide release. Not everyone can see a stage show in Australia. And the sound quality of Fiery Maze left a lot to be desired.

Re: Tim Finn Kitchen Sink: a chronological reference guide

The sound quality is very bad; the seat-of-your-pants energy and performance makes up for it in my opinion. Id be happy with White Cloud Black Shadow of similar quality. Ladies In Black seems more a traditional musical than Fiery Maze or White Cloud... so not burning as badly for it. Star Navigator, though, would be nice.

Ok, here's my latest effort. I've corrected mistakes I had made and included some things I had overlooked before. I also added "Quasimodo's Dream" (even though it's unreleased, I have a few other unreleased but available curios here, as well.) STill not really complete: there are some Split Enz live rarities and demos that are on YouTube that I haven't bothered to get into here. So still a work in progress, but very close to definitive, in my opinion. I have not included songs that Tim...

Hi @Lance LaSalle . Tim had nothing to do with 'Quasimodo's Dream' (ie writing credits). I've got The Reels album and the lyrics were all written by the lead singer David Mason. David Mason was also interviewed back in an Australian music documentary about the song and he admitted the lyrics were absolutely nonsense!! It was just nice background sounds with the synthesizer, which was all the thing back in 1981.
