Crowded House Very Very Best Orange Vinyl

eastwood43 ·
Hello everyone, and sorry for my English. I bought this beautiful edition a few days ago. I have all Crowded House albums and singles on CD, and some on vinyl, and my expectations were very high. Orange vinyls are beautiful, however, the sound is very poor. I think some CDs sound better, it has some background noise and the C side is completely saturated. It's a beautiful vinyl for my collection, but I don't think I'll listen to it again. My question is: Is my copy defective? I would like to...

Crowded House playing Pinkpop Festival next June

In Love With It All ·
Crowded House have been announced as one of the headline acts at the Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands next June. https://www.pinkpop.nl/2020/en/line-up/crowded-house/ So Bluesfest is not a one-off gig. I assume further dates will be announced.

Why no "She's Not There" on TOLM Deluxe Edition?

Dazz ·
While no one in their right mind would complain about the wealth of material on the second discs of these excellent deluxe editions, I'm left wondering they didn't put the Crowded House version of "She's Not There" on the Temple Of Low Men set. I'm guessing it was around that time that the track was recorded (when it was on "The Crossing" soundtrack album c.1989). It's quite a good version and a genuine rarity so was it overlooked or the powers-that-be (Messrs. Ansell and Finn) deemed it...

Paul McCartney talks Neil Finn

The Ligature ·
Paul McCartney held a Facebook live chat today hosted by Tim Minchin during which he confirmed a run of shows in Australia and New Zealand. Neil Finn received a mention: "McCartney also confirmed in the over-30 minute chat that the long-running rumour he once referred to Crowded House frontman, Neil Finn, as the world's greatest songwriter is false." "After being teased by Minchin that he doesn't even like Finn's music, McCartney joked back, "I didn't say that. I don't, but I didn't say...

Crowded House Blog

Cityscape ·
Hi, Not posted here before, although been reading for years. I've joined up to share a blog I recently wrote about Crowded House, and Neil's writing in general. I was getting frustrated with telling people I like Crowded House and them breaking into 'everywhere you go, always take the weather with you!' But not knowing any of the other stuff. I don't mean that in a snobby, elitest way. There are plenty of bands who I only really like one song by, whilst the rest of their catalogue doesn't do...

Great to put that one to rest. And nice that even if the quote is false, Paul is still a fan.

Oh, he is better than equal imho. Never have any of Paul's songs left me breathless or moved me to tears. And, Paul is 75 yrs old. Is it possible he's forgotten about having said that?

McCartney can't even remember many of the songs he's written so I doubt he'd remember whether or not he ever made a specific comment about someone. I mean, could you or I?

I am not so sure that I would recommend to Neil that he work with Paul should the offer come his way. I recently read the book "Man on the Run". Excellent read btw. It is basically Paul through the 70's and he does not come across well in the book. Not that the book was meant to purposely make Paul look bad as it appears to be based on accounts of not only Paul but people who knew or worked closely with him. He does come across as a bit domineering and difficult to work with. After reading...

I heard, also, that he is difficult to work with and doesn't accept criticism well, but I believe that if the opportunity were to arise, Neil would be fully equipped to make the decision whether or not to work with him...and, who know? Perhaps, it already has and they both agreed that it wouldn't be a good idea.

In my opinion, since the break up of the Beatles, NF's beatle-esque songs have been better than PMs beatle-esque songs. If that makes sense.. Like FSIOD, NTGYTYA etc..

To me, Paul doesn't have the quality control Neil has. Paul continues to write incredible songs (see his fabulous recent album "New"), but can also write some clunkers. Neil seems to have a higher percentage of elite level songs. I suspect Neil has a stricter "internal critic" or has others (Tim, Sharon, Liam etc) who help him know when a song "has it" and when it still needs work.

To be honest, I suspect that Neil may share some of the traits that I described in Paul. I sure Nick can tell some stories about Neil that may not be complimentary, particularly with the first maybe 2 or 3 albums. He did have a blow-out with Mitchell Froom and that may have been because he wasn't getting his way. So, putting two people like that together may not be a good idea. With "Out of Silence", I not sure that anyone was really there to tell Neil that "this is crap", not that I think...

I've always wondered how a Macca/Neil collaboration would go but some of the previous assessments are correct about Paul not taking criticism well. There's a great podcast featuring Beatles biographer Mark Lewisohn I listened to where he tells a first hand story. Paul's then manager told him Macca had gone ballistic over Elvis Costello giving him an honest appraisal of his songs. The podcast is long but well worth a listen if you're interested in Macca. I can't remember which point in the...

“Albert Einstein was once asked, ‘How does it feel to be the smartest man alive?’, he responded, ‘I don’t know, you’ll have to ask Nikola Tesla.'” or so goes the urban legend. Perhaps the Neil / beatle guy version, was a clever update. Neil has his own legendary status, and it needn't be marred by association. IMHO, of course.

I've also heard that quote in relation to Eric Clapton. "How does it feel to be the greatest living guitarist?" "I don't know you'd have to ask Prince" (when he was alive obviously).

One other thing about a Neil/Macca collaboration. The best time for it to happen would have been right after Crowded House disbanded. Around that time Macca did his very experimental and brilliant Fireman project. Imagine if he'd have got together with Neil with that level of creativity coursing through both of their veins?

One person was courageous enough to be straight with Paul McCartney...Nigel Godrich (Radiohead's producer) who produced his album "Chaos and Creation in the Backyard." Apparently Nigel listened to Paul's demos, and said of a bunch of the songs, "These are just okay, you can do better." He gave some concrete suggestions and basically said, "Come back when you have a collection of songs that are actually really good." Paul flipped of course, but eventually came to see Godrich was correct. And...

stuartjb, I agree that Mark's quite central to the sound and dynamic of the band. I really enjoy his contributions and am very disappointed not to see him be a part of this next incarnation. I was just saying that, unlike Neil and Nick, he's not technically an original member, so billing him as such would be misleading.

Took me an hour but have secured tickets for Concert at Sea. Even though Mark will not be there and I do hate all the other bands performing, won't pass an opportunity to see them live again. Now keeping fingers crossed for an extra date in Carre or other venue.
