It was one of the tracks on a club-only auction of Intriguer outtakes. If memory serves, the title track, "Blue Hotel," "Eyes Grow Heavy," and "Turn It Around" were also included.

I love that TIYL version. I was part of the 9:30 Club audience that night trying to hit that note. That was an amazing show. They played for 2:45 and the new songs went off extremely well. Unfortunately, that TIYL version has disappeared online. You can still find the Turn It Around video from that show online.

I have never got my hands on any live (barring FTTW) or rare fan club albums, so all rarities on these albums are new to me. So as much as I appreciate the early demos of songs that went on to be released, the real treasures for me are the wholly unique tracks that never saw an official release. This album's gift to me is four great tracks: Newcastle Jam, Same Language As Me, Convent Girls and best of all, Tail of A Comet. Same Language does briefly borrow from the bridge of Private...

I've actually been incredibly impressed with the quality of the previously unreleased material. This is obviously a result of Neil being very picky about what got released and, of course, I lament the omission of the material that was nixed. But really, there are maybe three or four tracks I'd have left off and the rest are well worth having. Highlights for me: Taste of Something Divine Walking on the Pier Walking on the Spot Isolation Two Minutes of Silence Nonsense of Course The Same...

Hi all, Having listened to them all (!), these are my favourites: Stranger Underneath Your Skin Tinny vocal, but nice guitar sound and shows how Now We're Getting Somewhere was developed. Think I'm Gonna Change "The sound of your voice was familiar" - reminds me of another CH/Finn song, but not sure which. Nice demo and again you can see how Mitchell started pasting parts of songs together. I May Be Late Great song, though the vocal sounds like Neil had a little bit of a sore throat/cold.

I am interested to see what others think of the latest Judd release. I tend to agree, Hellbilly59. Whilst Neil and Tim's solo efforts and the Pajama Club and CH releases since 2000 are all quality records, Judd's efforts since returning to recording 10 years ago has produced the best work of his career. For my money, UniQue would top of the list of "Best SE and related acts albums since 2000". I have only seen one review of UniQue , which happens to place it in a Best of 2016 list.

Sadly the album is not promoted by this site or the fan club. They are happy to promote other enzers solo work. And even hangers on. This album not only is Phil's but wally walkinson and miles goldings as well. Leaves a bitter taste knowing that these guys are overlooked.

Mitchell made a guest appearance at "A Night with The Finns" at Largo in Los Angeles in September 2016 and Don't Dream It's Over was one of the songs he performed with them. You can listen to that performance on episode #844 of Chris Hardwick's Nerdist podcast: http://nerdist.nerdistind.libsynpro.com/neil-finn Mitchell had previously performed on Don't Dream It's Over on piano as a guest at two of Neil's solo shows at Largo in 2002. I was at that Largo show. Wasn't Mark Hart there as well? I think he was sitting a couple of rows behind us. I could be confusing it with the solo gig for Dizzy Heights where they had the full string section. Too many Largo shows to keep straight.

There must be a new album being released , otherwise what's the point . The capacity for Castlefield Bowl is 8000'ish- my former gym ( The Y Club) is within that complex which includes canal waterways . It's a great location for an outdoor performance if the weather is good. A new album or very, very , very , very best of re-issue ? I am not so sure.. Maybe Peter or the Jaffaman will know .

Would've been great to have some kind of limited anniversary edition available through the club. The album plus one of the very early live recordings that are around packaged with it as a second disc. I'm sure Eddie could make them sound good. And it would've been unique to have had Phil re-paint the sleeve but with all the band members as they are now, 40 years on.

I agree in some respects that it's sad that such an incredible album as Out of Silence hasn't gotten much notice. On the other hand, the album can now remain somewhat of a special "gift" for the fans. And albums like this tend to take on prestige and recognition over time.

Indeed. I sincerely hope that no-one misinterprets any discussion about what's missing as a lack of gratitude or excitement. I'm genuinely thrilled at the prospect of what's to come but I would have liked more band studio out-takes and fewer demos and I don't think it hurts to explore what was left out. So thrilled about these bonus tracks. Can't wait to hear them all. Don't worry about this discussion being misinterpreted. It's all part of the excitement to discuss it all. From Day 1 I knew this sort of thread would pop up on Frenz Forum. Every time we added to or subtracted from the tracklist, I thought of everyone on the forum and what they were likely to say! I would have liked more studio out-takes too but, in most cases, they just came across as slightly sloppier versions of the final takes, with mumbled lyrics. While I was often ok with that, Neil...

Okay, I just listened to the MTV version for the first time. The only version I could find is a rather crude one on YouTube that was sourced from a horrible videocassette that cuts off the end of the song. But, looking past the technical shortcomings of the recording, I much prefer the live fan club version. I like the way the verse almost has a reggae feel to the groove, and I think the melody is more suited to the song being arranged as a midtempo ballad. And I really don't care for the...

It's ironic you say that. I joined the fan club simply because, back in 1999, the UK edition of Afterglow came with a deluxe edition that featured an interview disc. In it, Neil suggested that there were a number of outtakes that missed the cut that might be issued some time down the line as a fan club-only Afterglow 2. I wouldn't necessarily want a fan club release because that would upset the many who aren't members, but the point is that there are several "off-grid" ways of getting this...

I asked about that once. I wanted one of an album promo posters to auction off for charity but the Australian Recording Industry promoters usually keep 1 or 2 back for their own archives & the rest are returned to the industry body for destruction. PG may be able to get a copy of 1 for his Crowded House archives but due to image copyright laws, they're usually destroyed to stop them from falling into the wrong hands.

Secretly i think i agree. But we know he’s earned the right to do this. These r the stadium tours he earned 30 years ago and never got the chance to do. Also the extra interest in his music will boost the royalties for the back catalogue. And he’ll meet people who may offer the next leg of his career. Watching some of the live clips it reminds me how huge the US market really is - stadium concerts a couple of times a week for six months - thats unfathomable here in the antipodes. It’s...

On first listen, I'm pretty cool toward Lightsleeper. The thing I like most is how it sounds, in terms of the actual sonics. I don't like the sound of a lot of the stuff that's come out of Neil's studio (Pajama Club, Out of Silence, The Sun Came Out)...something kind of dry and flat about them, but this album sounds fantastic. This is a comment rather than a review, but does anyone else hear David Bowie’s “Sunday” at the beginning/ending of Any Other Way? It’s a nice little descending melody line. Totally legitimate to go separate ways from an artist you once loved. It's happened to me with other artists and I was actually really concerned about Lightsleeper. I thought Liam's last album was terrible and I was very concerned about what impact his work would have on Neil's. To my pleasant surprise, Neil seems to have reeled in Liam's excesses and helped him produce some terrific straight forward pop songs (more akin to I'll Be Lightning).
