Complete List of Split Enz & Beyond Studio Releases

Secret God (Stew) ·
Below is a generated folder list of every available Enz-related studio album/EP/project I can think of. I own a physical CD copy of everything listed (with the exception of a few that are digital only), and everything in these folders are lossless FLAC files (all tagged properly, with cover art). However, I am missing the bold/italic releases. So I guess my question is, aside from the bold/italic releases, am I missing anything obvious? Also, has anyone managed to find themselves copies of...

Re: What makes for a 'CH-style' album?

Crowded House Album [krou-did hous al-buh m] -noun 1. A collection of 10 or more songs mostly composed by Neil Finn and featuring cover art by Nick Seymour depicting the phrase "Crowded House". ... oh who am I kidding? Lets face it, a Crowded House album is whatever Neil Finn says it is. Crowded House lives in the mind of Neil Finn and his music is a window into that mind (or maybe it's his heart). For some reason, Neil Finn sometimes decides that songs he writes are solo songs and sometimes...

CH Encore - Saturday, Nov 26, 2016 - 2 tix for sale

reddawg ·
I am heartbroken that I can no longer go to the Crowded House Encore show in Sydney on Sat Nov 26 but would love to help another fan go! I'm selling my two tickets for face value (or rounded down to $120 AUD each). I'm willing to sell them separately. I hope a fellow Frenz can use them and will enjoy the show as much as I would expect!

Presumably that was a rhetorical question? I think the reason Peter Jones isn't well remembered is because didn't really leave his mark. Hessie's personality was his calling card. Same can't be said with Mark; he brought another colour to Crowdies - just think of the slide guitar on Together Alone . I think the shift in musical style on Together Alone also marks Mark's tenure in the band and I have always attributed this (rightly or wrongly) in no small part to his presence.

Hey Mark, thanks for sharing your blog. It's an interesting perspective on CH. I've been a fan for 30 years and to me their music simply sounds like home. I had a listen to your 'Twisted Logic' demo and it felt more XTC than Crowded House (please take that as a compliment). Keep rocking!

Re: Crowded House Blog

Thanks both Brando, I know what you mean with the XTC comment. I guess a line like 'visions of body parts floating in formaldehyde' (which is, of course, tongue in cheek) isn't quite Neil Finn! When I played it to a friend of mine, he said he heard it as a Tears For Fears type thing, with a big production. We'll have to wait and see how it turns out when I have the money to do some proper work on it. Love your comment about Crowded House sounding like home.

Re: September 1986 - September 2016...

Paul H ·
I tend towards the assumption that there's nothing major behind announcement delays. That is, there's nothing for us to worry over/get excited about. It's probably just making sure that everything is in place promotion-wise before hitting the Go button. But it's the "newly mastered" bit that worries me. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the mastering on the first three albums - in fact, it's pretty much as good as one could want IMO. Together Alone could use a little less compression but...

Release date on Amazon in the US is not until November 18 for the vinyl. No mention yet of the CD's. I think I'm going to wait and see if it is possible to just purchase the bonus tracks in download form at some point. I have no real desire to repurchase CD's of albums I already own, especially when I hardly ever listen to CD's any more.

I think the main reason to remaster any album of that era is, analog-to-digital conversion is vastly better than it was 20-30 years ago. All other things being equal, they will sound better for that reason. But I share your worry that all other things will likely not be equal..

Re: Why no "She's Not There" on TOLM Deluxe Edition?

Indeed. Neil didn't feel it was worthy enough so it was pulled. I respect his call but I disagree with him entirely. A classic case of the artist undervaluing the quality of his own work. I love CH's version and regret it's omission.

Re: Why no "She's Not There" on TOLM Deluxe Edition?

Dazz ·
Okay I respect their decision but can't help feeling that sometimes it's best not to leave these decisions to the artists themselves! Especially when their version was great regardless of Neil's opinion. This is also a problem with the McCartney remasters bonus tracks. Grateful what we have but there are a lot of holes in the discography not covered by these "definitive" re-issues. It appears that a certain amount of revisionism is at play here!

Re: Why no "She's Not There" on TOLM Deluxe Edition?

slowpogo ·
I don't think Neil or anyone else ever promised these reissues would include EVERYthing they ever did. That was never the point. So I don't get where the "revisionism" accusation comes from. There were always going to be choices of which tracks made it and what didn't. The goal as Neil stated was, every track had to have a solid case for why it should be included. He also didn't want to spoil the myth of the band too much. There are several interviews at this point explaining the thoughts...

Re: Why no "She's Not There" on TOLM Deluxe Edition?

The revisionism accuisation comes from judging that NOW is something is not good enough to release when apparently it was good enough back then. In this case, there is nothing wrong with it at all except that Neil doesn't like it. So to ignore it, or anything that was previously issued, seems to be another way of saying it never happened and we only ever issued real good stuff that we liked. In some cases you can understand why a band would rather not acknowlege some excrement that they...

Wow. What about the many live tracks included on B-sides over the last 30 years? I'm pretty sure many of those aren't included with the reissues either. Is that also some insidious attempt to rewrite history? Sorry, but that's some supremely paranoid thinking, and I can't make much sense of it. Maybe Neil's viewpoint has changed in the course of 20 years? Does he need anyone's permission anyway? I don't see any justification for attaching sneaky motives to these decisions. I once had an mp3...

"NOW is something is not good enough to release when apparently it was good enough back then". I don't think this is what anyone has said. There is a bonus disc for each album, containing mostly never before heard writing, demos, home recordings, alternate takes. The aim for these sets was NEVER to round up all the stray tracks that appeared on CD singles, soundtracks etc. I'm amazed at the stunning opportunity fans now have to trace the development of songs from composing demos and early...

How about the younger fans though who may or may not know of this or other tracks' existence? Good deluxe editions shouldn't be just aimed at the long time fan who has bought any and everything concerning the band. I've bought plenty of the CD singles over the years for the live tracks (some good, some not as good) and face it, demos can and often be boring so to fill a disc up of nothing but demos can test one's patience. Be honest, how often are you going to play the demos of tracks? Good...

Wow. Slowpogo quick to jump to conclusions about paranoid thinking. The irony is delicious really. I'm just saying it would have been nice to include it for historic value if nothing else. And yes, it would have also nice to include all the B sides of the singles as well for the same reason.

This. Can't believe some are getting so worked up over a cover, that they already had, rather than Neil songs that we know exist and didn't get. Is it really hard to understand that maybe Neil wanted to focus on his own songs rather than a cover they did of someone else's?

Re: Why no "She's Not There" on TOLM Deluxe Edition?

I love "She's Not There" and it's a bit annoying that it appears to be the only CH studio track not included in the deluxe editions. However, it's also the only cover song CH has ever recorded in the studio so I can see how that might have resulted in its exclusion. But man, I think it's a great recording and totally fits the ToLM vibe better than any other non-album track in the CH catalog. It's really not that hard of a song to track down. The Other Enz CD is on Amazon for $27.

"Just saying it would have been nice"? Well now you've walked things back quite a bit from claims of revisionism, and the band pretending tracks they don't like never even happened. That's some Fahrenheit 451-sounding stuff. But if "it would be nice for historic value" is your real intention I'm happy to stick with that.

Thanks Hawk57 and Steve for having a listen, glad your digging it! Plans for the future, we're recording two more songs in April then bundling them with They Love You and Garden Varieties and releasing as an EP, we're also going to make a short youtube series in which we pair acoustic recordings of some newer songs with footage shot at our drummer's new place. As for the name, it was just one of those things i thought up when half asleep, you know when the synapses are firing different ways...

Crowded House Blog

Cityscape ·
Hi, Not posted here before, although been reading for years. I've joined up to share a blog I recently wrote about Crowded House, and Neil's writing in general. I was getting frustrated with telling people I like Crowded House and them breaking into 'everywhere you go, always take the weather with you!' But not knowing any of the other stuff. I don't mean that in a snobby, elitest way. There are plenty of bands who I only really like one song by, whilst the rest of their catalogue doesn't do...

One of a Kind Crowded House Signed Ironing Board needs a new home. Hi everyone! I just found this site. I'm a big fan, and saw them on their first tour in Detroit 9-15-87.
