Re: Fenster live footage audio/video?

Bandie ·
I saw them live twice in Sydney in 1988, neither time with CH - one was an ill-matched support for a cheesy act called the Enormous Horns, the other a headline show at the now-defunct Kardomah Cafe in Kings Cross. Apart from the simple thrill of seeing them as individual musicians up so close, I can vouch for the fact that they were excellent live. I remember they included a superfluous cover-by-numbers of 'Counting the Beat', I suppose thinking that people wouldn't be familiar enough with...

I also saw Schnell Fenster live in 1988. Below is a list of live shows they did from the 1988 tour. I copy & pasted it from a previous post that I wrote. Not sure if there are any live recordings that were done from these shows (audio or video). Fri 16 Sept - The Club (Melbourne) Sat 17 Sept - The Club (Melbourne) Wed 21 Sept - The Palace (Melbourne) Thu 22 Sept - Mentone Hotel (Melbourne) Fri 23 Sept - Royal Hotel (Drouin) Sat 24 Sept - Central Club (Melbourne) Fri 30 Sept - Dee Why...

I had an interesting thought last night, after reading the interview you linked here. Judd forms bands/projects with very specific visions in mind. He wanted split enz to be auditory art. He was forced make a solo record/split up Swingers, he wanted Fenster to be a jam band (essentially). And when these things don't happen EXACTLY the way he imagines them to happen, he cuts, runs and then looks down on the experience as a failure. It's interesting. I can understand why so many people find...

Good luck, Trish. I've seen Finns as a loner before, but I never felt alone once the show began, eyes locked on the stage. Have met and made Frenz there too. Maybe there will be a spare ticket at will call for you at the last minute. Fingers crossed. I wish they would play some smaller towns in my region one day! We have a very historic, renovated, vaudeville (with an actual, "colored-person" entrance– not used anymore) theatre called the Lyric, here in Birmingham AL, so if the good Mr. Finn...

I'm expecting there will be a better chance of getting a ticket closer to the day as things do tend to pop up at the last minute, but the sooner I can secure a ticket, the better - fingers, toes, and every hair crossed that someone has a spare! 🙏

I've heard of "Sound of Truth": an early version of "Always Never Now." But I've never heard it. I've never heard of "I Can't Stand It." Would love to hear both of those. However, At any rate, I'm fairly certain they've never been released officially in any form and thus have been left off this list.

Tim Finn Kitchen Sink: a chronological reference guide

Lance LaSalle ·
Although Tim Finn has no convenient Kitchen Sink collections like that which Neil Finn (and Jaffaman) have generously provided to us fans, this is a list is meant to collate various Tim Finn or Tim Finn associated songs that have been released here and there in various forms in chronological. Due to the fact that there are no deluxe editions of Tim Finn albums as there are of Crowded House, this list of odds and sods is quite a bit longer than Neil's. I've also included prominent guest spots...

Hey folks. I'm new to the forums, and -sigh- yes, i'm quite aware of the Judd history on this forum. Frankly, i don't care. If i only listened to musicians i liked as people, i wouldn't listen to much music at all. Okay now that THAT's out of the way. My latest Enz-related obsession is SF. Yet, they're obscure even for an obscure band. They only have 2 studio albums, almost no background info. I know they opened for CH a number of times, but i don't even know how often they played live. Does...

TICKETS WANTED - Melbourne - Neil and Liam Finn at Zoo Twilights (any night)

Please pretty please - hoping someone can help! I would dearly love to go to one of the Zoo Twilights shows in Melbourne on 23, 24 and 25 February 2018 - I'll take any date! Would prefer to get two tickets so I can bring someone with me and not feel like such a loner, but if one is all I can get, I'll take it. I'm trying to do a better job of finding out when my favourite artists are touring *before* tickets go on sale, but missed the boat on this one and I'm heartbroken. Thanks in advance!

Great list Lance. Just looking at the Split Enz era tracks, you could add "Jolted" (from "Oddz & Enz") and "Murder" and "Something To Do" (both live from "I Like It Rare" series). Possibly also "Merry Christmas From The Frenz Of The Enz". Also "Hermit McDermit" (7") and "Mind Over Matter " (A&M "Frenzy") were earlier releases of Luton versions. Plenty of live versions of otherwise released tracks left off, but you may not have wanted to include these. "Another Great Divide" was...

YOu're right, I have missed those. I did deliberately leave off the live B-sides (for now). I'll probably redo this at some later point to include them. I did a list for Neil, too, and as we all know, there are so many live B-sides with Crowded House, I was a bit daunted at the work so when I feel ready to tackle that I'll do both of them.

LLT #2 & Any other Paul Hester tracks

Doug N. ·
It took several years (and probably a pandemic to increase the frequency of my searches), but I finally obtained "I Like it Rare #3" and LLT #1. I'm still looking for LLT #2 and any other source of Paul Hester tracks (I guess there was a fan club CDR with more tracks a few years ago?). I really enjoys Paul's music, and I'd like to get all of it I can since it doesn't look like it will ever see the light of day with a broad release at this point. Thanks, Doug

Fantastic find re "Quasimodo's Dream". That's definitely a new one for the completists. Your other titles are all from "White Cloud". Except "Family Images" and "Into This Place" don't exist as far as I know - definitely not performed as part of "White Cloud", but likely refer to some of the spoken word component. It's a tragedy that the full "White Cloud" has not been released, as well as more from the "Ladies In Black", "Twelfth Night", "Vermilion Sands", "Forenzics" and "Star Navigator"...

I love making rarities compilations for my favourite artists and recently decided to re-research Tim's rarities and update my compilation discs. Your information has been of great help. Thank you. Curious about "Quasimodo's Dream"; the other versions on youtube indicate it was a hit for the Reels. Did Tim write it? If not, odd that Tim would be doing a cover on a show where the host calls him one of the best songwriters around. Also, has anyone heard any buzz about when Forenzics may be coming out? And David, I agree that more of Tim's "projects" deserve more wide release. Not everyone can see a stage show in Australia. And the sound quality of Fiery Maze left a lot to be desired.

Re: Tim Finn Kitchen Sink: a chronological reference guide

Lance LaSalle ·
The sound quality is very bad; the seat-of-your-pants energy and performance makes up for it in my opinion. Id be happy with White Cloud Black Shadow of similar quality. Ladies In Black seems more a traditional musical than Fiery Maze or White Cloud... so not burning as badly for it. Star Navigator, though, would be nice.

STill not really complete: there are some Split Enz live rarities and demos that are on YouTube that I haven't bothered to get into here. So still a work in progress, but very close to definitive, in my opinion. I have not included songs that Tim...

Hi @Lance LaSalle . Tim had nothing to do with 'Quasimodo's Dream' (ie writing credits). I've got The Reels album and the lyrics were all written by the lead singer David Mason. David Mason was also interviewed back in an Australian music documentary about the song and he admitted the lyrics were absolutely nonsense!! It was just nice background sounds with the synthesizer, which was all the thing back in 1981.
