I meant to post that Phil's website has been updated with ordering info for the signed CDs - philjudd.com . A couple of other updates there, including the news that 'Novelty Act' is now sold out in physical format, though you can still get it digitally via Bandcamp .

I am interested to see what others think of the latest Judd release. I tend to agree, Hellbilly59. Whilst Neil and Tim's solo efforts and the Pajama Club and CH releases since 2000 are all quality records, Judd's efforts since returning to recording 10 years ago has produced the best work of his career. For my money, UniQue would top of the list of "Best SE and related acts albums since 2000". I have only seen one review of UniQue , which happens to place it in a Best of 2016 list.

Sadly the album is not promoted by this site or the fan club. They are happy to promote other enzers solo work. And even hangers on. This album not only is Phil's but wally walkinson and miles goldings as well. Leaves a bitter taste knowing that these guys are overlooked.

I am a relative newby here and I must say that I had noticed a bit of something going on here, whether it be from the "site" or "fans" I am not able to make a judgement. Me personally? I am unbiased! I love any great NZ Music! Split Enz were great! Post Enz Finn stuff was/is great! Post Enz Judd stuff was/is great! I just wanted to see if any other frequenters of these forums had listened to Judd's new album... If the answer is yes, please share your thoughts... If the answer is no, go buy...

@hellbilly59 .. yes, youre spot on there.. Phil and Peter Green had a falling out a few years ago, hence why there is no promotion whatsoever from Frenz, which sucks to be honest with you. You'd think that especially given the fact that if there was no Phil Judd, there'd've been no Split Enz, which means there'd be no Frenz.. So any personal issues they may have could be kept personal and Phil could get the little promotion he deserves as the others do, but sadly thats not how things operate...

Cheers Spencer. Have since got myself a copy of K-Scope . Not sure I'd consider albums Neil has 'produced' as part of my canon, even if he did happen to co-write a song or two. I know Mark Hart has played with Supertramp a fair bit, even singing lead vocals on some of Roger Hodgson's songs, but has he played on any of their studio albums or sung on any studio recordings? I mean if we're including Supertramp where do we draw the line? Yeah hard to include some of Phil Judd's soundtrack work...

Hey Stew - have you considered the two Citizen Band albums (Citizen Band 1978, and Just Drive Thru Town 1979)? I’m guessing that they aren’t there because they were never released on CD, and Rust In My Car (which is on CD) isn’t there because it’s a compilation?

Not sure if you want to add Nigel's - Sleeper and Tim and Anna Paquin's - The Magnificent Nose. Just had a quick look back and you don't have either LLT EPs. Although I think they had live tracks on them.

Nice list! I would add Phil Manzanera's K-Scope which like Southern Cross featured Tim on lead vocals for a few tracks. Other Enzers were also involved. Mark Hart was a member of Supertramp for a few albums before and after Crowded House. Neil was featured prominently on several Dave Dobbyn albums including as producer and co-songwriter on Twist. Phil contributed music to a movie called Amy in 1997 but I don't know if the soundtrack was officially released.

Alternative Versions

Freeby ·
So I read that Phil Judd and Noel Crombie both agreed that re recording some of their songs for their Second Thoughts album was a waste of time. I personally find the alternative versions of these songs to be a vast improvement on the originals. Especially when it comes to Phil Judd's performance of "spellbound and Titus". What are your second thoughts?

I own a physical CD copy of everything listed (with the exception of a few that are digital only), and everything in these folders are lossless FLAC files (all tagged properly, with cover art). However, I am missing the bold/italic releases. So I guess my question is, aside from the bold/italic releases, am I missing anything obvious? Also, has anyone managed to find themselves copies of...

Fenster live footage audio/video?

OKAlrightAHuhOhYeah ·
Hey folks. I'm new to the forums, and -sigh- yes, i'm quite aware of the Judd history on this forum. Frankly, i don't care. If i only listened to musicians i liked as people, i wouldn't listen to much music at all. Okay now that THAT's out of the way. My latest Enz-related obsession is SF. Yet, they're obscure even for an obscure band. They only have 2 studio albums, almost no background info. I know they opened for CH a number of times, but i don't even know how often they played live. Does...

Rank every band/project/solo work

The Pineapple Head ·
Here's a fun game. Let's rank every band/project done with the Finn Bros and solo work. To jog our memory here's a list of all the projects in the form of my ranking (by my count). I'm also separating Crowded House/Split Enz into two "eras". 1) Crowded House v.1 (1985-1996) 2) Finn Brothers 3) Neil Finn Solo Work 4) Tim Finn Solo Work 5) Crowded House v.2 (2007-2011/2016) 6) Split Enz v.1 (Judd Era) 7) Pajama Club 8) 7 Worlds Collide 9) Split Enz v.2 (Non Judd Era) 10) The Mullanes If I've...

I saw them live twice in Sydney in 1988, neither time with CH - one was an ill-matched support for a cheesy act called the Enormous Horns, the other a headline show at the now-defunct Kardomah Cafe in Kings Cross. Apart from the simple thrill of seeing them as individual musicians up so close, I can vouch for the fact that they were excellent live. I remember they included a superfluous cover-by-numbers of 'Counting the Beat', I suppose thinking that people wouldn't be familiar enough with...

I had an interesting thought last night, after reading the interview you linked here. Judd forms bands/projects with very specific visions in mind. He wanted split enz to be auditory art. He was forced make a solo record/split up Swingers, he wanted Fenster to be a jam band (essentially). And when these things don't happen EXACTLY the way he imagines them to happen, he cuts, runs and then looks down on the experience as a failure. It's interesting. I can understand why so many people find...

I guess the way I have thought about it is who/what I would most like to see (while in their prime) or be most excited to see a new album from as opposed to rating against their full recorded output. 1 Split Enz v1 2 Split Enz v2 3 Crowded House v1 4 ALT 5 Finn Family* 6 Finn Brothers 7 Neil Finn and Paul Kelly 8 7 Worlds Collide 9 Crowded...

So do we rank these individual bands / artists / projects out of 10 based on their entire output? As for other projects, I would include the likes of Citizen Band, The Swingers, Phil Judd, Schnell Fenster, The Makers, Enzso, ALT, Neil & Liam Finn, etc. Unless this is specifically about the Finn Brothers, in which case some of those might not count.
