I think its quite nice that Phil's given it away. Im just assuming, but it seems as tho he was putting this book back into the world so one of his/enz etc fans could own something that is special. Some of them are downloadable at Lozza's http://www.bitzonline.com/ > Phil Judd > Triple album What I really love and regularly listen to is "Remind me to forget" - that's brilliant! Hey, I saw Adrian Belew with the Bears last week. Awesome. The quintessential guitar king. This weekend I am going to see comedian/actor David Cross (also known as Donny from "Just Shoot Me"--chicken pot, chicken pot, chicken pot pieeeee). As for MY gigs coming up, I just got cast in a bizarre play called "Cloud 9" by a feminist writer named Caryl Churchill. It's all gender-identity-twisting and sexual innuendo. Woo-hoo! They do cast a long cloud on the Kiwi music scene I guess, which could get a bit old . After all, Split Enz broke up in 1983/4. So if you are a younger music critic, it's a bit like being English and having the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Stones and Pink Floyd relentlessly in the top ..whatever.. lists year after year. Should I duck for cover?

Re: "Six Months" Slurred

KhanadaRhodes ·
Oh, I agree. I imagine if you're in NZ and not an Enz fan, it'd get old hearing things like "How can you not like them?" or whatever. But to devote so much time and energy to writing about a band you don't like is a bit silly, I think. Just say your opinion and be done with it, no need to rehash it every few years. Taking an attitude of "I don't like Split Enz and I never will!!" just makes him sound like a child having a temper tantrum.

But he's not. He's done it twice, once in 2001 - that's 7 years ago! - and once in a book he wrote on NZ music that's come out recently. Given the book was about NZ music, people would have complained if he didn't include anything at all, so instead, he got Sam Neill - someone who does like the band - to write about them. I don't think that's a reason to slate him so passionately as a critic.
