Crowded House let Peter Green include it on the Fan-club album "I Like It Rare", which was released earlier this year. I think you can still buy it from the club. It's a really good album. Eight songs in total. It has one song each from: Paul Hester, Noel Crombie, Eddie Rayner, Nigel Griggs, Split Enz and Crowded House. Tim Finn contributed two songs. Email Peter to see if he has any copies left.

Seriously though I do love Late Last Night, Sweet Dreams, even the mid Enz stuff like I See Red- how Herman Munster does Eddie Rayner look when Tim throws his flowers away off his piano...BUT blink and next shot they are back again on the piano, then gone again....train spotting at...

For us Aussies, here a thought. IN the Countdown Video of I hope I never, Mr. Eddie Rayner is missing. Neil is at the piano instead. There is Tim, Neil, Nigel, Noel and Mal - But no Eddie! Wonder why? P.S I enjoyed a countdown episode from August 1979 which had the Enz hosting the show. Perfect! Peter from Melbourne

Mark Hart's slide guitar just isn't CH..and his keyboards always sounded forced and clunky. They really didn't need anyone else, but if anything...they should've brought Eddie Rayner back. Not only is he a far superior musician..his style blended much more smoothly within the context of the band.I know Eddie played on a song or 2 on TA..but I really feel it could've been better than it turned out to be. Re: Edible Flowers found?

Jaffaman ·
"Edible Flowers" was recorded by Split Enz in 1999 as a possible release around the time of the "Enz of the Millennium" concerts. In the end, they decided not to release it. Eddie Rayner (not Vedder) recorded a version of it a year or two ago for his upcoming "Play It Straight" album. This is a collection of covers of forgotten songs by New Zealand writers, including "Play it Strange" by PJ (Phil Judd, not Pearl Jam.) Neil & Tim then said they were going to record "Edible Flowers" for...

I think it belongs on the Enz area... because it started out as an Enz song. If it is tagged under the area for NF solo, then gets moved to Finn brothers when they record it, do you then move it to the Eddie Rayner section when he releases his version of it. Nah the Edible Flowers "germ" started with the Enz. Thats only my 2cents worth. PG

I'm a massive fan of electronic music and so instantly fell in love with Lord Nord. But I do think trying to compare Split Enz with The Prodigy is a bit out there- each are amazing in their own ways and The Prodigy certainly can pull out an amazing tune. Lost Cat though, is one of my favourite instrumentals that the band released, Eddie Rayner has some great talent.

Re: Why did Tim quit the Woodface tour?

Dean ·
Well, instead of rereading that chapter again in Something So Strong, here's a brief couple of reasons why. First of all, although some of the shows were fantastic, logistics came into the picture. Tim had been a part of maybe 6 out of the 14 songs from Woodface, and Woodface was one of three albums, so for most the show, say, 60-75%, he wouldn't be prominently singing. There was one quote from the book that mentioned "Tim felt a little bit like Stevie Nicks, singing the odd song, and then...

Hi Icognito, I thought actually that's what you meant, too ambitious for a first attempt. There's a truly sublime moment in I Hope I Never where the rest of the Orchestra finally shuts up and it's all stripped back to a string quartet. Eddie must have liked it so much he does the same thing on EnzSo2 with Maybe. True oh worthy Frenz Webmistress, they are the most obvious commercial picks. Now if I'd picked the songs we'd have had Jamboree, Charlie, True Colours, Best Friend, Play It Strange,...

Hey Private Life, Yeah, and I want Phil Judd's next album to be called the Late Last Night Symphony. Hah hah You're right! I didn't even think about that, but that's not really what I had in mind or what I hear in my head. But are the Polynesian influences that evident in the early Enz's work? There's the Maori strum in "Spellbound" and I think I hear a slight Hawaiian influence in "Late Last Night," but what else is there? I started a thread on here about this, but didn't get many answers.

The show rocked alright. Seeing and hearing Tim perform the new songs live really brought them to life for me, and I'm very much anticipating the new album now. I'll listen to it this weekend, and can't wait. Apart from that, I thought Frank was the un-funniest commedian I had ever seen, and it was tedious sitting through it. He had a lot to do with the writing in the early days (even though he's not credited). Nearly all of Mental Notes was written while Golding was still in the band (I know Maybe was a new song barely finished when it was recorded but I'm sure Jaffa will tell me I'm totally wrong). One example is the guitar solo to Time For A Change - note for note Wally Wilkinson copied Golding's violin solo. Timbo and Philbo have both credited him with a lot in the early days.
