Re: Who'z yer favourite drummer (out of enz)?

John ·
good question. i'm not a drummer so my opinion is strictly amateur but if i had to choose one it'd be Malcolm. I really liked some of the stuff he did in the Dizrythmia-Frenzy period - (e.g. Nice To Know). He sounded pretty limp on Corroboree though. But they all had their moments. Dirty Creature works really well. I prefer Paul's drumming on See Ya Round to what he did in CH. RE Malcolm Green - I saw a flyer in a music store in Sydney about a year ago advertising his services for sessions...

Re: Mal Green, It's really sad that it's come to that. He was a pretty damn good drummer (I'm in the Crowther camp tho, cos I love his drumming - and his guitar pedals!) Reminds me a bit of the story that Phil Judd told us all during his brief period here about meeting Wally Wilkinson in the dole Q a few years back. Half of me thinks that some of the guys got treated a little badly throughout the years. not slagging off anyone, but some of the firings were a little harsh.

Thanks for the tips, Sara. You got me on a big hunt now for that Knox cartoon, which I imagine is different than the one Jaffaman posted. That one sure is great to see though. Thanks, Jaffa! I read some of Judd's posts from that time. I need to go back and read them all--it's fascinating stuff. There's a great mad wit in his writing. I read the one in which he praised Knox and then he was talking about the Clean and referred to David Kilgour as "Wilson"--maybe he was remembering Martin...

I was strange... I started as dirndl wearing weirdo that had to be told that you don't but your t-shirts into your leggins in physical education... I laughed about everything hysterically ("meep" - hahahahahaa") and painted corps and zombies into my books. I somehow always had some sweet friends who beared me the way I was, even when I suddenly dyed my hair green with late 13 years. By using watercolour, the first time... They beared me and my music, my weird dreams and ideas of leaving...

Ok, Heidi - can't resist this! As a fellow all-day-sickness sufferer, when my son was on the way two very dear old ladies who came into our pizza shop in Seaside every morning for coffee and frozen yogurt used to dispense "sure" cures for me. Their "most effective" remedy was a good stiff shot of sauerkraut juice first thing in the a.m. and that would "fix me right up". Each day when I'd again be green and woozy they'd cluck and say "haven't had your sauerkraut juice, have you?" Oh...it...

Not ironic at all. CH made a small number of quality LPs, and broke up at a peak when NF decided to continue under his own name. Fleetwood Mac peaked in the late 70s (or when Peter Green* was in charge, if you think like me) and Fleetwood, McVie, and whoever else is around continue to milk the name for all it's worth. Where's the irony? * edited to add - I'm referring to the OTHER Peter Green. Paul.

Check out the Split Enz DVD Thoughts thread where someone unfavorably compared the Enz DVD to the Something for Kate DVD. The responses from Peter Green et al. apply to the Erasure comparison too. Also, Erasure had much more chart success in Britain and America than Split Enz, and therefore (whether we like it or not) many people would regard Erasure as the "bigger" band -- in commercial terms anyway.

Fleetwood Mac is still going strong in Britain because of the British component, strong in USA because of the USA component, and the rest of the world because of a MacDonald style marketing component. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Fleetwood Mac died when Peter...

Thanks, Neo. Of course, I should say that it's not really my place to say whether a big, expensive job like the remastering and marketing of an album is possible or not. That's up to the record company and the Enz themselves. I'm in no way part of the inner circle, but I can suggest this idea to those who are. To put all this back into a perspective, refer to the previous discussion on "Mental Notes": Mental Notes Extras . Peter Green knows from experience the difficulty of getting this sort...
