If 'Help is Coming' was performed live without the lap steel... it would sound very bare I think is the word.

My understanding from your quote above is 'Lap Stell = Mark Hart'. Therefore: Kare Kare - No Mark Hart = no lap steel.

I just think some people who would be introduced to CH by friends would be missing out on a unique sound 🙂.
