The average length of time between Neil Finn albums is 35 months or about 3 years. Lightsleeper represents Neil's quickest turnaround yet, coming out just 11 months after Out of Silence. Clearly Lightsleeper is well below average, it was a long 43 months between Dizzy Heights (2014) and Out of Silence (2017) - the longest Neil has ever taken between records.
Pajama Club was also well below average, coming out just 15 months after Intriguer. So, sometimes Neil beats his own average but, especially after releasing two albums in two years, I think it's likely we're in for a big dry spout. Not to mention the impact of putting his work on hold for the Fleetwood Mac tour.
The law of averages says the next Neil Finn penned album is due Summer 2021. Outside chance that it comes earlier in 2021, but 2020 seems unlikely. Whenever it drops, let's hope it's a Crowded House album! As much as I love all this music, I think it will be time by then to put the band back together (again).
