One thing's for sure. Paul Kelly should never have been allowed to play rhythm guitar on "Don't Dream It's Over" or "Better Be Home Soon". Both songs have a bit of what Neil and Tim have called the Maori strum. As a guitarist myself, it took me a long time to get the rhythm right when I play those songs or "Weather With You", but if you can't do it the song just doesn't sound right. Case in point, Paul Kelly's opening strum on "Don't Dream It's Over". I would say it basically ruins the performance of the song.
I don't know why Neil insisted on playing piano during "Better Be Home Soon" and "Don't Dream It's Over", but I'm guessing it's because Paul Kelly wouldn't have had anything to do on those tracks if Neil played guitar (Paul Kelly is clearly not a piano player).
Has anyone else noticed this?
Yes I did notice it but when I think about Neil's missed notes in Message to My Girl, I can't really blame Mr. Kelly.
