Wow, so we all need to do to enjoy this product is buy a $500 Blu-ray player? Well, sign me up!
I'm sure other players will handle it. What brand player do you have? Have you installed the most recent firmware?
I'm actually quite curious as to what is going on. I don't think blu-rays have a PAL or NTSC encoding, and the disc is region free, so there must be some other issue. I've looked around in a couple technical forums and found this: "Some 1080i content can be 50hz and won't play on many US players. Some select units can convert the 50hz to 60hz, but most don't." Again, I found this on a random forum, so this could be incorrect as well, but it may point to the issue with the blu-ray.
Blu-ray player firmware can cause issues with disc playback as well. The firmware (in the player) allows the software (the blu-ray disc) to be played. http://hdguru.com/blu-ray-play...ware-upgrade-issues/
Again, I'll test the DVD tonight. Haven't had reason to pop that in yet.
