Re: Gig injuries

kia kaha ·
Well, I used to be pretty full-on at concerts, up the front, in the mosh pit etc... but I'm fairly well-built (height and weight wise) for a girl, and more than able to take care of myself. Probably the worst injury I got was at a (get this) Split Enz show in Auckland, and that was inadvertent. The guy behind me was being obnoxious and the bouncer (a VERY huge Maori guy) told the errant audience member any more of that, and he'd be out... anyway the guy continued being rowdy, and so the...

I love special effects so gladly sat down to the first movie but even the spectacular scenery and effects could not keep me awake I'm afraid. A few months previously I had seen a mickey take of the movie by a British comedy duo French and Saunders and every time I saw the size of their feet or noticed the clever camera angles to emphasise height/lack of it I couldn't help but giggle (which really annoyed hubby). I'll probably watch the DVD of two towers eventually and probably fall asleep again.

Re: is it silly to want to meet Neil??

paimaopi: This is almost off the subject but.......you said he was barely taller than you ( how tall would that be you think?). I only ask because I have only ever been totally into one other band ( not to the extent that I have loved Split Enz, Crowded House and Neil) and when I actually got to see them up close, they were shorter then me ( I'm 5' 7") and for some reason after that- I was totally disappointed..something about them putting off such an energy about them-this huge personality,...

Re: is it silly to want to meet Neil??

That doesn't sound silly to me at all. I had never contemplated how tall Neil Finn might be, it had simply never occured to me before I met him. Finding him shorter than I'd expected (without realizing I'd been expecting anything), I didn't feel disappointed at all myself. Being rather on the short side (I'm about 5'2"), it's a bit of work to look taller folks in the eye at times, so not having to look so far up in talking to Neil was cool. And it made him seem more real to me, more...

I like The Mayor of Casterbridge too, but it's so depressing!! I just read "Clockers," don't remember who it's by, but it was excellent. I couldn't put it down. I think it was written around "92, at the height of the inner-city crack epidemic. Highly recommended.

Biffy are fantastic, greatest underrated band there is. Shame that the entire music press seems to hate them (Kerrang! hate them, the NME hate them, Rocksound aren't too keen, MTV & MTV2 don't really like them...) and their record companies bizarre logic of not producing a video for the new single (The Ideal Height out on March 24th people! New album Vertigo of Bliss coming in May). I saw them on tuesday in Cambridge, seeing them again tonight in Tunbridge Wells... (poor ickle Simons got...

Plan to flop in the opposite direction your hair grows - if you usually part on one side, move it to the other side. Use a strong styling gel, and blow dry your hair upside down. When rightside up, spray hairspray on the roots while holding your hair up and gently dry. (you need some height before the flop starts) Neil's hair was really short on the sides and back, so you might want to go for a trim. The green jacket on Woodface has an unusually big floppy collar - it prob was custom-made...

Silke, I'm so glad you're one of the few folks who gets to have your issue figured out. That's great news. YOU GO, SISTER! Below are some excerpts of an article I'm working on for a local newsweekly about how overweight people are beaten over the head, every single day, about their weight when in MANY cases like Silke's, it's not even our fault... *** A size 22 wedding dress by Jim Hjelm costs $200 more than the retail price at Carlisle’s of Pittsburgh, but that’s standard bridal practice.

Ingrid does not really want to change the length of her legs. The extensive operation to actually do such a thing would be expensive and risky, leave crazy scars, and result in arthritis for the rest of her life. I saw in a sci-fi movie once (can't remember the title of it) where a guy was trying to pass himself of as a genetically-engineered perfect other guy in order to make into the space program. Part of the modifications he had done was an operation to lengthen his legs, so he'd be the...

Bran could always wear colored contacts...they're the rage anymore. I don't mind being short (except for when I'm trying to paint the porch). I'm at exactly the right height to bury my head in Jay's chest...ahhhhh. There's nothing like being folded up like that. Nothing. Bet Nigel agrees.

I'm losing count here. Is it my turn to talk awamutu out of wanting to move? Okay, I'll do my best... For purposes such as these, a song's peak chart position is normally used because that effectively corresponds to the height of its popularity. At the very least, DDIO was released as a single at the tail end of 1986, so the vast majority of its radio spins, video plays, and sales were in 1987. Therefore, it's a song of 1987. Yeah, well, it was bigger here, so we have better taste.

Converted church space with rather ugly acoustical padding on the a-frame ceiling to keep the sound waves from bouncing around. I saw Rasputina there in October. There were a few scattered tables but I think it's basically a standing venue. So come early. Stage height is about 3.5 feet? You can stand right up at the front. Parking is on the streets nearby. Interesting neighbourhood. Seemed a bit bleak but was safe enough. I'm sure Heidi might have more info. Mary Ann (aka IceeRed)
