Not sure if it was you, Noni, who I already said this too: Do not get the writing tattooed too small! I made that mistake and the black ink ran under my skin, making the writing blurry and illegible. What lyrics are you thinking of getting done?

You did not say that to me, but I have read that. Thanks for the heads up! I've always thought I'd get "seven worlds will collide", but my all-time favorite Neil song is Devil You Know. So now I am doubting myself! If I ever met him and had the opportunity to ask him to write something down for me, I'm not sure in the moment which I'd choose. Thanks for the sample of his writing! I would love some more pictures if anyone has anything!

Re: Quick Question About Neil's Tour

Fuzzmistress ·
Hi Noni, When I saw Neil in NYC in November for the showcase at Le Poisson Rouge, he did a meet and greet about 20-30 minutes after the show. So you never know! Not sure about these somewhat larger venues but it can't hurt to wait around and see. Good luck! Franny

I agree, it's all about waiting around to find out. It's never a sure thing. Who knows what commitments Neil may have after each gig. he may need to hit the road right away, he may be tired and ready for bed. I don't always wait around. it depends on who I'm with and how far I have to drive to get home. However, the couple times I have waited around, I've never been disappointed. Back in 2005 I got to meet both Neil and Tim and have them sign my Finn scrapbook!

Some fans have posted their pic with Neil from the Dizzy Heights tour on Instagram, Twitter amd the Facebook page--The Finn Brothers Appreciation Society. And Some fans have even had the setlist from the show autographed as well. I suggest ya bring a CD or photo to have autographed. Neil is very generous with his time when he can do so. So it's worth staying around afterwards to try and connect with him. Have a wonderful time at the show tonight!!!

Nice list! I would add Phil Manzanera's K-Scope which like Southern Cross featured Tim on lead vocals for a few tracks. Other Enzers were also involved. Mark Hart was a member of Supertramp for a few albums before and after Crowded House. Neil was featured prominently on several Dave Dobbyn albums including as producer and co-songwriter on Twist. Phil contributed music to a movie called Amy in 1997 but I don't know if the soundtrack was officially released.

I am not so sure that I would recommend to Neil that he work with Paul should the offer come his way. I recently read the book "Man on the Run". Excellent read btw. It is basically Paul through the 70's and he does not come across well in the book. Not that the book was meant to purposely make Paul look bad as it appears to be based on accounts of not only Paul but people who knew or worked closely with him. He does come across as a bit domineering and difficult to work with. After reading...

I heard, also, that he is difficult to work with and doesn't accept criticism well, but I believe that if the opportunity were to arise, Neil would be fully equipped to make the decision whether or not to work with him...and, who know? Perhaps, it already has and they both agreed that it wouldn't be a good idea.

In my opinion, since the break up of the Beatles, NF's beatle-esque songs have been better than PMs beatle-esque songs. If that makes sense.. Like FSIOD, NTGYTYA etc..

To me, Paul doesn't have the quality control Neil has. Paul continues to write incredible songs (see his fabulous recent album "New"), but can also write some clunkers. Neil seems to have a higher percentage of elite level songs. I suspect Neil has a stricter "internal critic" or has others (Tim, Sharon, Liam etc) who help him know when a song "has it" and when it still needs work.

To be honest, I suspect that Neil may share some of the traits that I described in Paul. I sure Nick can tell some stories about Neil that may not be complimentary, particularly with the first maybe 2 or 3 albums. He did have a blow-out with Mitchell Froom and that may have been because he wasn't getting his way. So, putting two people like that together may not be a good idea. With "Out of Silence", I not sure that anyone was really there to tell Neil that "this is crap", not that I think...

I've always wondered how a Macca/Neil collaboration would go but some of the previous assessments are correct about Paul not taking criticism well. There's a great podcast featuring Beatles biographer Mark Lewisohn I listened to where he tells a first hand story. Paul's then manager told him Macca had gone ballistic over Elvis Costello giving him an honest appraisal of his songs. The podcast is long but well worth a listen if you're interested in Macca. I can't remember which point in the...

“Albert Einstein was once asked, ‘How does it feel to be the smartest man alive?’, he responded, ‘I don’t know, you’ll have to ask Nikola Tesla.'” or so goes the urban legend. Perhaps the Neil / beatle guy version, was a clever update. Neil has his own legendary status, and it needn't be marred by association. IMHO, of course.

One other thing about a Neil/Macca collaboration. The best time for it to happen would have been right after Crowded House disbanded. Around that time Macca did his very experimental and brilliant Fireman project. Imagine if he'd have got together with Neil with that level of creativity coursing through both of their veins?

One person was courageous enough to be straight with Paul McCartney...Nigel Godrich (Radiohead's producer) who produced his album "Chaos and Creation in the Backyard." Apparently Nigel listened to Paul's demos, and said of a bunch of the songs, "These are just okay, you can do better." He gave some concrete suggestions and basically said, "Come back when you have a collection of songs that are actually really good." Paul flipped of course, but eventually came to see Godrich was correct. And...

Lol just up Neil's alley ..I can see why some people did not get the joke .. You have to know the persona of the hosts and and downunder humour I think. Neil is so good at pretending to be serious that it made it even better. He is great at not cracking up too. Only once did I see slight amusement in his eyes and a hint of a grin.

Now I love Todd's work, but he has a checkered past when it comes to collaboration. Andy Partridge had a pissing match on Twitter regarding Todd's production work on an XTC album. I've read that Todd tends to impose his will and wizardry on those acts he's produced. With that being said, Neil's More Than One of You on his latest has that Todd feeling. I'm curious. If they can connect musically on equal footing, I'm hopeful. I would be interested to hear what they concoct.
