Re: Who Else Is Snowed In?

jenn ·
Definitely the worst part of a snow storm is having to clear out your car or drive-way and then actually drive in it. And believe me, even in Minnesota, people do not know how to drive in bad weather! Another bad kind of storm is an ice storm. Those are super scary! I remember a particularly bad storm a few years ago. I got home from work OK, but the next day my car locks were frozen! And we are talking frozen. My dad came over and used a flame torch to "thaw" the locks and he also had to...

Re: Researching My Welsh Heritage

How wonderful to read all of your posts! Thank you for responding. That's funny, Sam and Tina, that you mention the stay-at-home feeling relative to folks from Wales. Perhaps that's why I've always been such a home-body. It took a big deal of negotiating for me to leave my childhood home for good, and since I have I've often noticed a strong pull to stay in the immediate area of whatever new home I've set up. Perhaps I come by that honestly! Sam, thanks for your offer to send me something...

And thank you both for sharing your favorite moments in the soundtrack. I need to listen to it more closely and I will look for the things you've mentioned. Secret God (Stew) ·
Thanks for the great post Peter. Exactly. He lived off the genius of Neil Finn for more than 10 years playing bass lines already written, enjoying the life of a rock star, earning heaps of money... and yet he still wants to make Neil look bad to the general public (and a page 9 article in Australia's highest selling tabloid is appealing to the dumbest demographic - people who's perception of Sir Neil will change for the worse). Make that Nick living off Neil for... 18 years? Neil (IMO) had...

Well, last night Neil had no need to encourage the crowd to stand up. I think it may have been down to the support acts, who were both very good and very energetic, so the audience was well warmed up I almost thought that CH were going to be upstaged by Supergroove, wow did those guys put on a show! Opening song was Private Universe, with Matt almost sounding like a full complement of Maori log drummers on his own. Very powerful. Second song (I think) was Don't Stop Now, and two guys went...

In all due respect, knowing the record companies (and an article stating Neil's dad is a very buisnessman minded) the bonus disc/CD would come out when they come to tour a particular country/territory...like Bic Runga's albums in NZ, or One All when Neil toured the USA. Bonus discs always come out when an artist is touring. We all know how us fans feel ripped of by it all, but that's the industry for you. I just got a copy of "Handheld Torch" a new CD from TARMAC ADAM (Nick Seyomur and Paul Hesters new group). While listening to it last night, it reminded me of this topic and certainly sheds some new light on this topic. Even though the music and melodies are great (to me its a mix of 2 of my favourite groups Coldplay and The High Llamas), they show "0" resamblance to anything even remotely close to the Crowded House "sound". I understand that musicians evolve (thus the case of both Tim and...

"Handheld Torch" is a well-done album. As with any music, it needs to be listened to on its own, not compared to others. The musicianship is excellent, lush 'soundscapes' and lyrics that need multiple listens to appreciate the layers. The sound swirls and dances around and is ever-changing. Everyone needs to listen without expectations and decide for themselves. Get a copy and check it out. www.abc.net.au/dig/stories/s1025324.htm (live performance) www.tarmacadam.com.au (official website)

tarmac adam is a band. I came to know of it because both Paul Hester and Nick Seymour played with the band on their debut and am pretty sure they toured for some time playing live. Their only CD is called "Handheld Torch" and has a COLDPLAY-HIGH LLAMAS feel to it. It has a very tight sound and I for one love it. Even before Paul's death, he had stopped playing with them and I think even NIck was no longer with the Band (could be wrong though). If you have a chance, give it a spin. Its worth it

The guest spots from Rufus Wainwright, Lou Reed, Devandra Banhardt and Boy George could have stifled things, but in fact they're all great contributions. The whole record's only 36 minutes long too. I have a feeling there was not enough unique input by the other band members (the last lineup) and Neil is trying to make this version of the band very strong with better songwriters and possible better musicians involved.
